[June 26] Public opinion on the Island governor Woo’s measure on the naval base project is negative.

The negative opinion is 67.3% while the positive is 23.2% (Green bars)

Jeju Sori reported the result of the public opinion poll on the Island governor Woo Keun-Min’s so called win-win solution measure regarding the naval base issue. It has commissioned the poll to the KM research institute (Ltd.), which was processed from June 21 to 23.

On June 4, he has stated that the villagers won because he has requested the central government of economic opportunities for them and that navy won at the same time because the naval base will be built for the progress of national security. His remarks have brought upon much criticism by the villagers and media that denounced his money-based mind set.

According to the reported public poll on June 26, negative opinion on his measure of so called win-win solution reaches to 67.3% (Overall wrong: 59.6%, very wrong: 7.7%) while positive opinion reaches to 23.2%.

The negative opinion recorded the highest among the Island people at their 40s (74.5%). Positive opinion was the highest by those at their more than 60s (30.2%).

While 65.8 % of the Jeju citizens were negative (positive is 23.7%) on that measure. 71.4% of the Seogwipo citizens were negative (positive is 22%) on it. The Gangjeong village belongs to the Seogwipo City, the southern and half part of the Island.

Otherwise, on the matter to solve the Jeju naval base issue, construction stop is higher (41.5%) than the other answers of government economic support (29.8%), process as the current (17.4%) and National Assembly special committee (6.40%).
