Summary:
Paul, together with Silvanus and Timothy, addresses the believers in Thessalonica as a church that belongs to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. The greeting is brief but meaningful: it identifies the senders, recognizes the Thessalonian believers as a community rooted in divine relationship, and extends to them grace and peace.
Teaching:
The core of Scripture is the knowledge of God. God the Father always comes first. Calling God “Father” is something very special. Through faith in Jesus, we are able to call God our Father.
God the Father caused His Son, Jesus, to be crucified and die. Through His death and resurrection, when we believe in Jesus, we die as if we ourselves were crucified with the Son of God, and just as Jesus was raised from the dead, we too are raised. God then pours out the Spirit of His Son upon us — this is the work of the Holy Spirit.
That is why we call God “Father.”
