Summary:
Paul concludes this section with a prayer for the Thessalonian believers. He asks that God the Father and the Lord Jesus would direct his way back to them so that he might see them again.
He also prays that the Lord would cause their love to increase and overflow for one another and for all people, just as his own love for them abounds. His desire is that, through this growing love, their hearts would be strengthened and established as blameless in holiness before God the Father.
Paul looks ahead to the coming of the Lord Jesus with all His saints and prays that, at that time, the Thessalonian believers would be found firm, blameless, and holy in God's presence.
Teaching:
Our God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Though the Persons are distinct, they are perfectly one. In the same way, the church reflects the triune God. We are each different, yet we are called to be united as one because we bear His likeness.
The reason we are to share one faith, one confession, and one path is that the Triune God Himself is one. Biblical diversity is not diversity apart from unity, but diversity within unity.
A person who knows the love of God will labor and sacrifice for others. God is the One who enables us to love. Those who have experienced God's love are able to love others because God works that love within them. Love is what a church worker needs most. Even if a person is lacking in other areas, genuine love covers many shortcomings and enables faithful ministry.
Paul writes this kind of letter to the Thessalonian church and gives these exhortations for a purpose: that they may be established as blameless before our Father. His desire is that they grow in love, holiness, and faithfulness so that they may stand without reproach in God's presence at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
