합창에서 자음의 발음법 1. 짧은 시간에 붙인다. 내뱉듯이 순간적으로 이루어지도록 한다. 자음은 짧게 모음은 길게 해야 된다는 뜻.
2. 자음의 성격을 빨리 없애고 모음의 성격만 남게 해야한다. 그렇지 않으면 숨 새는 소리가 남을 수 있다.
3. 모든 사람이 동시에 붙여야 한다. 이는 합창이 하나의 소리만(마치 한 사람이 노래하는 것처럼)을 내는 데 꼭 필요하다. 또 이것은 정확한 리듬감, 템포감 등이 있을 때 가능해진다. 그리고 지휘에 따라 정확히 노래할 때 정확히 할 수 있다.
4. 정확하게 자음을 발음 하도록 한다. 모음을 정확하게 발음 했는데도 불구하고 가사 전달이 잘 안될 경우는 자음의 발음이 좋지 않기 때문이다.
5. 자음을 통한 느낌의 전달을 생각해야 한다. 자음을 부드럽게 , 강하게 발음하는 것에 따라서 노래는 사랑스러운 곡이 되기도 하고, 극적이 되기도 한다. 자음을 통해서 이러한 느낌을 나타낼 수 있도록 하여야 한다.
6. 레가토(끊어지지 않게 부르기), 스타카토(끊어서 부르기), 마르카토(음을 강하게 찍어서 부름)을 표현할 수 있어야 한다. 영어의 자음을 아티큘레이션(articulation)이라고 하는데 이는 음악에서의 아티큘레이션과 관계가 깊다. 다시 말해서 음악이 요구하는 자음발음이 되도록 해야 한다는 것이다
