Summary:
In the opening of the letter, Paul, together with Silvanus and Timothy, addresses the church of the Thessalonians. They identify the believers as a community that exists in relationship with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, emphasizing their shared spiritual foundation. The greeting then extends a blessing to the church: that they would receive grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ


Teaching:
To build or grow a church is to win people. The church is built by bringing people into the faith.

Paul wrote to the Thessalonians for the sake of the church. He sought to correct their mistaken views about the end times and teach them sound doctrine. Those mistaken beliefs had caused some believers to become idle and others to behave radically. By pointing out the harmful effects of this date-setting view of the end times, Paul revealed what would take place in the last days.

Paul devoted himself fully to helping the church become what it was meant to be. The church belongs to Christ, and its true identity is found in being in Christ. A church that is in Christ obeys Him and bows before Him. When the church, as the body of Christ, moves according to Christ’s direction, it truly becomes the church it is meant to be.
