Know That You Are Chosen & Hold Fast to the Gospel

Summary:
Paul gives thanks to God for the believers, who are loved by the Lord and chosen for salvation through the Spirit’s sanctifying work and faith in the truth. God called them through the gospel so that they might obtain the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, they are to stand firm and hold to the teachings they received from Paul and his companions, whether spoken or written. Paul then prays that the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father, who loved them and gave them eternal comfort and good hope by grace, would comfort their hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word.

Teaching:
Our faith grows in God, bears fruit, and increasingly reflects the character of Jesus. This is God’s process of sanctifying us. Central to this process is believing the truth, and the heart of that truth is Jesus. Therefore, to know Jesus is to receive salvation.

God called us to save us and, after saving us, to enable us to obtain the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. The glory belongs to the Lord, yet we also receive light within His glory.

Just as the Holy Spirit inspired the writing of Scripture, sermons, lectures, and fellowship within the church can communicate the gospel, apostolic teaching, and tradition through the work of the Holy Spirit.

We should pursue good works from beginning to end, doing every good work and speaking every good word. In this way, our faith is strengthened and firmly established.
