As Senior Manager of the Imaging Advanced Development group, the primary role is to lead and manage a team of engineers and scientists who create and implement prototype hardware designs and software for research and development of imaging and display technologies. The incumbent will help define goals and establish budgets, develop and manage workflow and schedules, monitor and track progress, help resolve conflicts, and ensure technical issues are resolved quickly and efficiently. The position also demands that you perform a variety of additional internal and external responsibilities, including personnel manager, technical mentor, liaison with other departments within Dolby, and interaction with suppliers, partners, and customers at engineering and mid to senior managerial levels.
Essential Job Functions:
• Manage a team of engineers tasked with developing the next generation of world-class imaging products. Perform project management tasks including specifying technical requirements, task distribution, scheduling, progress monitoring and tracking, and team coaching.
• Foster teamwork and personnel development, mentoring junior engineers on best practices and hardware/software development lifecycle.
• Manage multiple tasks with conflicting priorities. Utilize good judgment to make decisions that balance needs across the organization.
• Manage five to ten direct reports and build a young, growing Advanced Development team. Perform personnel-related management duties including recruiting, objective setting, performance development, career guidance and mentoring, and periodic performance evaluation.
• Collaborate with managers and technical staff on the planning and execution of joint imaging projects and technology exchanges across multiple geographically dispersed Dolby offices.
Requirements:
• University degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience with Bachelor degree, or 7 years experience with a Masters degree.
• Knowledge and experience in project management of video imaging hardware and software systems design, development, and testing.
• Knowledge and expertise in two or more of the following areas:
• LCD television design
• Video image processing
• Display systems integration
• C/C++ language / GPU / RTL programming
• Video data compression and signal processing.
• Knowledge of TV development and manufacturing, as well as well as familiarity with the key suppliers providing components and solutions to TV industry is highly desirable.
• Familiarity and experience in the following areas is a desirable and advantageous: optics, VHDL, ASIC’s, video standards, video interfaces, and multimedia file formats.
• Demonstrated success and extensive hands-on experience in the successful management and delivery of hardware development projects that include significant software content as part of the systems architecture. Ability to achieve results, meet deadlines, and adjust to quickly changing priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
• Experience in working with and integrating licensed technology components into a larger system would be advantageous.
• Ability to motivate, manage, and challenge a diverse group of highly trained and multi-disciplined professionals engaged in multiple projects.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, have a desire to serve as coach/mentor less experienced staff, and demonstrate good judgment in diplomacy and issues resolution.
• Willingness and desire to work in an open, collaborative team environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills. Methodical and detail-oriented, with a thorough approach to problem solving.
• Willingness to travel to the US and internationally.
