Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 2:18~29 - To the Church in Thyatira, adhered to the truth, but where false prophetess was active
Revelation 2:26 – To him who overcomes and keeps my works to the end
☞ Revelation 2:26 - To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations--(NIV); And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:(KJV); To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, To them I will give authority over all the nations.(New Living Translation); I will give power over the nations to all those who win the victory and continue until the end to do what I want. (ERV); I will give ·power [authority] over the nations to everyone who ·wins the victory [overcomes; conquers] and ·continues to be obedient to me [or keeps working for me; keeps/obeys my works] until the end. (EXB)
○ As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_153>, <Bible Matrix ⑦_164>, and <Bible Matrix ⑦_173>, the meaning of “To him who overcomes or wins victory” is defined in <1 John> 5:4~5, that is, “He who believes that Jesus is the Son of God is the one who overcomes the world.” This is the same meaning of “but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” in <Matthew> 24:13.
○ Also, this is the same meaning of “To him who overcomes and does my will or keeps my works to the end” in <Revelation> 2:26, but here, ‘To him who keeps my works’ is added. If you look at the English Bibles, 'one who keeps my works' is interpreted in various ways as: 'does my will' in NIV, 'keepeth my works' in KJV, 'obey me' in NLT, 'do what I want' in ERV, and 'obedient to me or keeps working for me or keeps/obeys my works’ in EXB.
○ To put it in my own way, I think that 'the one who overcomes' is the one who keeps the 'faith’ in Jesus to the end, and that ‘the one who keeps my work' is the 'works' of each one as what he has done in this world based on ‘faith’. I think it is the ‘deeds’ of “I will repay each of you according to your deeds” in <Revelation> 2:23, which I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_195>.
○ Therefore, ‘the one who keeps my work' means the one who testifies to the whole world that Jesus is the Christ (or Messiah) (1 John 2:22) and Jesus is the Son of God (1 John 5:5), and what Jesus did and said when he came to this world. Specifically speaking, it refers to those who testify the word of God the Father and the testimony of Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:2) and die righteously (the righteous) or are martyred holy (the holy) until the second coming of Jesus (c.AD 10,740~).
