Summary:
Deacons must be dignified, sincere in their speech, not given to excessive drinking, and not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold firmly to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested, and only if they are found to be beyond reproach should they serve as deacons.
Teaching:
A person who is subject to reproach, whether inside or outside the church, is not qualified to become a church worker. A person should be tested first, and only after passing this test should he be entrusted with the office of deacon. The length of time he has attended church, the amount of his offerings, and his social status are irrelevant.
Not just anyone should be appointed as a deacon or elder, and your cooperation is also needed in this process. Because the church was established by God, only those whom God approves and who meet His qualifications should be appointed. Only then will they follow the example of Jesus by emptying and humbling themselves and sincerely serving the church.
