The Image of a Good Worker

Summary:
A good servant of Christ Jesus faithfully reminds fellow believers of these truths while continually being nourished by the words of faith and the good doctrine already followed. Such a servant rejects worthless myths and instead trains himself for godliness. Although physical training has limited benefit, godliness is beneficial in every respect because it carries promise both for the present life and for the life to come.


Teaching:
The words of faith and sound doctrine refer to Scripture and preaching. Nurturing means governing one’s household and caring for the church. The work of the church is to nurture people; do not try to pursue other things.

No matter how strongly worldly fables are believed, they have no place in true faith and bear no fruit. They do not win people. Apart from the Word, there is no way for us to be saved and no path that leads to salvation.

Those who receive the Word have a different attitude. That attitude is called godliness, which is an attitude of reverence toward God.

Faith begins in the heart and is expressed through one’s words and actions. God gives such people promises for both the present life and the life to come.
