Summary:
Because their hope is fixed on the living God, the Savior of all people and especially of believers, Christ’s servants labor and strive. Timothy is instructed to teach these truths and not allow his youth to diminish his ministry. Instead, he is to become an example to believers in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. He must devote himself to the public reading of Scripture, exhortation, and teaching, while faithfully using the spiritual gift given to him through prophecy and the laying on of hands by the elders. By immersing himself in these responsibilities, his progress will become evident to everyone. He must carefully watch both his life and his teaching and persevere in them, because doing so will bring salvation to both himself and those who hear him.
Teaching:
In the church, respect and authority should not come merely from being older. Rather, the person who teaches the Word should be respected and have authority. We must remember that the church is the body of Christ and that Jesus is the head of the church. We must also remember that order within the church should be established through the Word.
Every church worker must set an example. This is evident from the qualifications given for overseers and deacons. Although Timothy was young, he could establish order and possess the authority to do so if he became an example in faith. He was therefore instructed to devote himself to reading the Word, exhortation, and teaching.
The work of the church requires wholehearted devotion. This means giving your full effort to church work, your work at the company, and your responsibilities at home. When you meet someone, you should also give that person your full attention and effort.
A church worker must examine himself. Do not try to judge others. Grieve over your own weakness and wickedness, and humble yourself before God. Then follow the Word of God that you hear with all your heart and strength.
