천성경 (증) - 431. 공산주의의 문제점과 종언

1 오늘날 세계는 공산세계와 민주세계, 가인과 아벨로 갈라져 있습니다. 세계적으로 갈라져 있습니다. 가인 아벨이 싸움으로써 불행을 초래했는데, 그 역사적인 한의 혈통을 청산짓기 위해서는 가인과 아벨, 공산세계와 민주세계가 갈라져 싸우는 입장에 서서는 안 됩니다. 이 땅 위에 세계평화 왕국이 임하지 못한다는 것입니다. 평화의 부모가 이 땅에 임하지 못합니다. 가인 아벨과 마찬가지 입장에 있는 공산세계와 민주세계가 하나되어야 이 땅 위에 부모 입장에 있는 세계통일 주권이 임하는 것입니다.

공산주의, 왜 문제인가
2 민주세계와 공산세계는 반대로 되어 있습니다. 민주세계는 하늘을 찾아가고, 공산세계는 반대로 가고 있습니다. 공산세계는 물질세계를 찾아가지만, 민주세계는 그 반대의 길을 가고 있습니다. 민주세계는 개인을 중심삼고 있지만, 공산세계는 당이 주관하는 것입니다. 민주세계는 자유와 사랑과 평화를 중심삼고 있지만, 공산세계는 위협과 총칼을 중심삼고 강제로 주관합니다. 두 세계가 지금 반대로 벌어진 것입니다.

3 민주세계는 마음주의입니다. 거기에는 그래도 동정이 있고 미래가 있습니다. 또 거기에서는 평화를 논합니다. 그러나 공산주의 이념은 변증법에 의한 투쟁을 주장합니다. 그들은 투쟁과정이 발전의 요인이라고 말합니다. 거기에는 평화가 있을 수 없습니다. 이념이 다르다는 것입니다.

4 오늘의 세계는 몸과 물질을 위하여 싸우는 세계입니다. 아무리 경제학, 과학, 사상이 발전한다고 할지라도 그것이 인류에게 평화를 가져다 줄 수 없습니다. 그것으로는 안 됩니다. 마음의 세계에 들어와 이 육체와 물질을 재감별시킬 수 있는 어떠한 주의나 천적인 움직임이 역사적인 종말시대에 나타나지 않는 한 이 세계는 망해 버릴 것입니다. 이제 하늘이 기필코 하나의 중심을 결정지어야 할 최후의 시대에 봉착했습니다. 이러한 시대에 살고 있는 우리는 이 많은 문제들을 어떠한 입장에서 해결하고 청산할 것이냐? 이 문제가 세계적으로 벌어져 두 사조로 나타났으니, 그 하나는 유물사관이요 다른 하나는 유심사관입니다. 딱 나뉘어 나왔습니다. 물질과 더불어, 몸과 더불어 나가면 망합니다. 그러니 하나님과 더불어 청산해야 됩니다. 여기에서 우리가 제창해야 할 것은 마음인데, 이 마음의 주체가 누구입니까? 마음의 주체는 하나님입니다.

5 민주주의는 민주주의대로, 공산주의는 공산주의대로, 자기들을 중심삼고 평화세계에 도달하려고 합니다. 공산주의는 지금부터 완전히 지상에서 없어지는 시대에 들어갑니다. 이것은 섭리적으로 봐도, 또 역사적으로 봐도 그렇게 될 수밖에 없습니다. 공산주의가 없어지면 민주주의는 어떻게 되겠습니까? 민주주의 세계에서도 공산주의세계가 없어졌기 때문에 지금부터는 민주주의 시대가 오게 될 것으로 생각합니다. 자기들이 주도권을 가지고 세계를 지배하고, 민주주의가 희망이라고 생각하고 있지만, 공산주의의 멸망과 함께 민주주의 자체도 그 뒤를 쫓아서 급히 떨어져 가는 것입니다.

6 지금까지 공존은 상대를 서로 부정하려는 싸움이 계속되는 상태에서의 공존입니다. 서로가 평화를 유지하며 서로 좋아하는 상태에서의 공존은 있을 수 없습니다. 이런 관점에서 유심사관과 유물사관의 투쟁은 근본에서부터 해결해야 됩니다. 이것을 해결하려면 선을 어느 위치에 세우느냐? 먼저 원칙적인 기준을 확고히 세운 후에 그 기준을 중심삼고 나중 된 입장을 처리해야 됩니다.

7 선생님은 가인권인 공산세계와 아벨권인 민주세계를 통합한 기반 위에 서지 않으면 안 됩니다. 그러므로 이들이 하나 못 되면 안 됩니다. 몸 마음이 확대된 세계가 민주세계와 공산세계입니다. 하나는 마음주의적 세계요, 하나는 몸주의적 세계입니다. 이것을 합한 기반 위에 서지 않고는 세계평화의 문을 열 수 없습니다. 이것이 원칙입니다. 이것이 개인 몸으로부터 가정·사회·국가·세계에까지 전부 연결되는 것입니다.

8 공산주의 논리를 보면 ‘세계는 투쟁 과정을 거쳐서 우리가 지향하는 하나의 이상세계에 도전하는 것이다. 그것은 절대적이다. 당의 명령을 어떠한 명령보다도 절대시해야 된다.’라고 하는 것입니다. 그것이 선한 편에 서서, 자유와 행복과 평화를 가져올 수 있는 편에 서서 그런다면 모르지만, 공산주의의 본질적 내용을 보면 이것은 가히 상상할 수 없는 내용을 갖고 있습니다. 자기들의 목적을 달성하기 위해서는 수단 방법을 가리지 않습니다. 자기 부모도, 자기 나라도, 자기 동지도 그 가는 길에 방해가 되면 자르는 것입니다. 그리하여 70년 역사의 공산주의는 세계의 문제로 등장하고 있습니다.

9 공산세계가 추구하는 것은 무엇이냐? 투쟁의 결과로 말미암아 갖게 되는 평화의 세계입니다. 그 평화의 세계는 오늘날 민주세계에서 말하는 평화와는 다릅니다. 평화에 위배되는 모든 것은 숙청하는 것입니다. 공산주의 사상에 위배되는 모든 것은 숙청합니다. 반동분자라는 것입니다. 그러니까 반동분자를 다 잘라 버리고 반동분자가 없게 만든 그 세계의 평화를 말합니다. 다릅니다. 오늘날 소련이 평화를 주장하지만 그 평화는 마르크스·레닌주의를 중심삼고 거기에 위배되는 모든 반동분자들을 숙청해 버리고, 마르크스주의 일변도의 입장인, 그런 반대 무리가 없는 경지를 말하는 것입니다.

10 공산주의는 뭐냐? 주체도 인정 안 한다, 대상도 인정 안 한다, 방향성도 없다, 목적성도 없다는 것입니다. 이 가운데 어느 하나를 인정하면 다 깨져 나가는 것입니다. 여기서는 주체와 대상의 관계를 투쟁 관계로 보고 있습니다. 싸워서 하나된다는 것입니다. 세상에 그런 법이 어디 있습니까? ‘여자와 남자가 싸워서 하나된다. 몸과 마음이 싸워서 하나된다.’라고 하는 것입니다. 그들은 또 주체와 대상에 있어서도 ‘물질이 먼저지 마음이 먼저가 아니다. 마음은 물질에 의한 파생물이다.’라고 합니다. 거꾸로 뒤집어 놨습니다. ‘방향은 투쟁이다.’라면서 투쟁의 방향을 취하고 있습니다. 평화의 방향이 아닙니다. ‘통일은 피를 봐야 된다. 피를 보고 통일이 된다.’라고 합니다. 이것은 역사 발전의 원칙에도, 우주 존재의 원칙에도 위반됩니다.

11 변증법은 모든 것은 투쟁하면서 하나된다 하는 것입니다. 만약에 자본주의 세계가 없어지고 자본주의 체제가 공산주의 체제로 화했을 때는 투쟁 목표를 어디에 둘 것이냐, 그때에 평화의 세계가 그냥 그대로 올 것이냐 하는 것입니다. 그때 그냥 가만히 있어 가지고 이상적인 공산세계가 온다고는 절대 생각할 수 없습니다. 만약 이 자체가 포화상태에 들어가서 이상 실현이 불가능하게 될 때는 반드시 자체 분열이 격심해집니다. 만일 그런 세계가 된다면, 반대로 영계가 있다면 영계가 그 세계를 가만히 두겠느냐는 것입니다. 하나님이 있다면 어떻게 하겠습니까? 그 세계가 되었다면 종교가 없어집니다. 종교가 없는 세계가 되는 것입니다. 그렇게 되었을 때 지금까지 종교를 대하던 하나님이 아무런 일도 하지 않고 가만히 있겠느냐는 것입니다. 공산주의는 자본주의에 대해서 투쟁 목표를 세우는 동시에 하나님에 대해서 투쟁 목표를 세우고 있습니다. 종교를 투쟁의 목표로 세우는 것입니다.

12 공산주의가 말하는 평화는 우리와 개념이 다릅니다. 어휘적 전술을 활용하고 있습니다. ‘평화’ 하면 우리 자유세계, 민주세계 사람들은 서로가 의견이 다르고 주장이 다르고 목적 방향이 다른 입장에 있더라도 서로서로 화합하여 하나를 이룰 수 있는 기준을 찾아 나갑니다. 그것이 평화입니다. 그렇게 하나된 것이 평화라고 보는데, 공산세계는 아닙니다. 프롤레타리아 독재정권 앞에 반대하는 모든 반동분자는 완전히 제거해 버리고 거기에 상대적으로 나타나지 않는 기준에 선 평화입니다.

13 이미 미국의 행정부나 군대나 교회에 공산당이 투입되어 있습니다. 그래서 무신론적 기독교화 운동을 본격적으로 백주에 선전하고 나옵니다. 물질사상을 중심삼은 공산주의 사상 기반 밑에서 조직적인 편성을 해서 나오고 있는데, 이것을 중심삼고는 기대할 수 없습니다. 행정부를 기대할 수 없고, 군대를 기대할 수 없고, 교회를 기대할 수 없고, 전부 기대할 수 없습니다. 학자도 그렇고, 대학생도 마찬가지입니다. 그러니 할 수 없이 공산주의에 대처할 수 있는 사상적인 기반 밑에서 새로운 종교운동을 제시하여 세계문제화시켜서 희망을 존속시키는 길밖에 없다는 결론이 나옵니다. 그런데 공산당은 순리적인 자기의 이상세계를 원치 않습니다. 폭력적인 이상세계를 원한다는 것입니다. 목적을 위해서는 수단 방법을 가리지 않습니다. 그런 세계화된 기반을 대해야 할 것이 선생님의 입장이요 통일교회의 입장인 것을 생각해 봐야 합니다. 그렇기 때문에 사상적으로 돌려놔야 되고, 생활적인 감정을 돌려놔야 되고, 행동의 방향을 돌려놔야 됩니다.

14 공산당, 악이라는 것은 힘이 셀 때는 언제나 공격해 옵니다. 평화가 없습니다. 그런 의미에서 내가 통일교회 젊은 사람들 가슴에 불을 질러 놓고, 미래에 있어서 투쟁이라는 내심적인 결의를 다짐시키기 위해서 총 공장을 만든 것입니다. 힘은 힘으로써 제압할 수 있는 기준이 되어 있지 않고는 안 됩니다. 그렇다고 공격한다는 것이 아닙니다. 약하게 될 때는 언제나 침공할 수 있는 것이 사탄의 본질입니다. 평화니 뭐니 하는 것은 그들의 전략전술입니다. 급변하는 정세가 몰려오는 이때에 한국 백성들이 해야 할 것이 무엇이냐? 생사의 결단을 내릴 수 있는 사상적인 무장을 해야 할 때가 왔다는 것입니다.

15 유물론을 중심삼은 공산주의가 어떻게 나왔습니까? 그것은 역사적으로 물질밖에 모르는 이 몸의 투쟁적 내연을 확대시켜 세계적으로 결실시켜 놓은 것입니다. 그것이 유물론적 세계관입니다. 또 유심론, 오늘날 민주세계는 마음과 몸이 싸우는 데 있어서 마음 편으로 열매맺어 세계적으로 결실한, 그러한 실정으로 나타난 것입니다. 이것이 지금 세계문제로 대치하고 있습니다. 언제나 몸이 마음을 치고 끌고 다니듯이 끝날에는 유물, 물질주의가 마음주의를 침범해서 사망의 구렁텅이로 몰아넣을 수 있는 위험천만한 수위를 넘고 있습니다. 이렇게 볼 때 21세기에 세계의 통일도 필요하지만, 하나의 세계나 평화의 세계도 필요하지만 내 마음속 깊이 통일과 평화를 가져올 수 있는 단 하나의 방안을 어떻게 찾아내느냐? 이것이 문제의 동기입니다. 이것이 기원이 되어 있기 때문에 여기에서부터 해결짓지 않으면 모든 것이 수포로 돌아갑니다.

16 오늘날 세계정세의 상황을 살펴볼 때, 공산주의자들은 세 가지 형태의 전쟁을 벌이고 있습니다. 그것은 사상전·정보전·선전전입니다. 미국은 크고 강대한 국가이지만 공산주의자들과 싸워 이길 수 있는 확실한 정책적 방법을 갖고 있지 않습니다. 미국의 위정자들은 공산주의자들과 맞서서 싸우기를 꺼린 나머지 후퇴와 양보를 거듭해 나왔습니다. 그렇기 때문에 미국과 인접한 중남미 국가들이 공산주의자들의 조종을 받아 미국의 자유와 평화를 위협하는 단계에까지 이르고 말았습니다. 만일 공산주의자들이 미국의 통치권을 잡는다면 여러분은 어떻게 하겠습니까? 그들이 지금처럼 여러분에게 자유와 평화를 보장해 줄 것 같습니까? 선생님은 그러한 불행한 사태가 미국에서도 발생할 가능성이 있으며, 그러한 징후는 이미 세계 도처에서 나타나고 있음을 확신합니다. 중남미 여러 국가들은 선생님과 그의 사상만이 미래의 희망이라고 인식하기 시작했습니다. 이제 통일교회 신도들은 미국을 설득하고 이해시켜야 합니다.

天聖経 (增) - 431. 共産主義の問題点と終焉

1　今日、世界は、共産世界と民主世界、カインとアベルに分かれています。世界的に分かれています。カインとアベルが争うことによって不幸を招きました が、その歴史的な恨の血統を清算するためには、カインとアベル、共産世界と民主世界が分かれて闘う立場に立っていてはいけません。この地上に世界平和の王 国が臨むことができないというのです。平和の父母がこの地に臨むことはできません。カインとアベルと同様の立場にいる共産世界と民主世界が一つになってこ そ、この地上に父母の立場にある世界統一主権が降臨するのです。

なぜ共産主義が問題なのか
2　民主世界と共産世界は、反対になっています。民主世界は天を求め、共産世界は反対に向かっています。共産世界は物質世界を求めていきますが、民主世界 はその反対の道に向かっています。民主世界は個人を中心にしていますが、共産世界は党が主管しているのです。民主世界は自由と愛と平和を中心としています が、共産世界は脅しと銃剣を中心として強制的に主管しています。二つの世界が今、反対に広がっているのです。

3　民主世界は心の主義です。そこには、それでも同情があり、未来があります。また、そこでは平和を論じます。しかし、共産主義の理論は、唯物弁証法によ る闘争を主張します。彼らは、闘争過程が発展の要因であると言っています。そこには平和があり得ません。理念が違うというのです。

4　今日の世界は、体と物質のために闘う世界です。どんなに経済学、科学、思想が発達するとしても、それが人類に平和をもたらしてはくれません。それでは できません。心の世界に入って、この肉体と物質を再鑑別することができる、ある主義や天的な動きが歴史的な終末時代に現れない限り、この世界は滅びてしま うでしょう。
 今や、天が必ず一つの中心を決定すべき最後の時代に直面しました。このような時代に暮らしている私たちは、この多くの問題をどのような立場で解決し、清算 すべきなのでしょうか。この問題が世界的に起きて二つの思潮として現れたのですが、その一つは唯物史観であり、もう一つは唯心史観です。はっきりと分かれ て現れたのです。物質と共に、体と共に行けば滅びます。ですから、神様と共に清算しなければなりません。ここにおいて、私たちが提唱すべきものは心です が、この心の主体は誰でしょうか。心の主体は神様なのです。

5　民主主義は民主主義なりに、共庭主義は共庭主義なりに、自分たちを中心として平和世界に到達しようとします。共産主義は、今から完全に地上から消えて いく時代に入っていきます。これは、摂理的に見ても、また歴史的に見ても、そのようになるしかありません。共産主義がなくなれば、民主主義はどうなるので しょうか。民主主義世界においても、「共産主義世界がなくなったので、今からは民主主義の時代が来る」と考えます。自分たちが主導権をもち、世界を支配 し、民主主義が希望だと考えていますが、共産主義の滅亡とともに、民主主義自体も、そのあとを追いかけ、急激に落ちていくのです。

6　今までの共存は、相手をお互いに否定しようとする闘争が継続する状態での共存です。互いが平和を維持しながら、互いに良い状態での共存ではありませ ん。このような観点から、唯心史観と唯物史観の闘争は、根本から解決しなければなりません。これを解決しようとすれば、善をどの位置に立てるのでしょう か。まず原則的な基準をしっかりと立てたのちに、その基準を中心として、あとのものを処理しなければなりません。

7　先生は、カイン圏である共産世界とアベル圏である民主世界を統合した基盤の上に立たなければなりません。ですから、これらが一つにならなければならな いのです。心と体が拡大した世界が民主世界と共産世界です。一つは「心主義」の世界であり、一つは「体主義」の世界です。これを合わせた基盤の上に立たな ければ、世界平和の扉を開けることはできません。これが原則です。これが個人の体から、家庭、社会、国家、世界にまですべて連結されるのです。

8　共産主義の論理を見ると、「世界は闘争過程を経て私たちが指向する一つの理想世界に到達するのだ。それは絶対的だ。党の命令はどのような命令よりも絶 対視しなければならない」と言うのです。それが善の側に立ち、自由と幸福と平和をもたらすことができる側に立ってそのように言うのであれば分かりません が、共産主義の本質的内容を見れば、これは、とても想像できない内容をもっています。自分たちの目的を達成するためには、手段や方法を選ばないのです。自 分の父母も、自分の国も、自分の同志も、その行く道に障害になれば切るのです。そうして、七十年の歴史を経た共産主義は、世界の問題として登場しているの です。

9　共産主義が追求するものとは何でしょうか。闘争の結果によってもたらされる平和の世界です。その平和の世界は、今日、民主世界でいう平和とは違いま す。平和に背くあらゆるものは粛清するのです。共産主義思想に背くあらゆるものは粛清します。反動分子だというのです。ですから、反動分子をすべて切って しまい、反動分子がいないようにした、その世界の平和を言うのです。民主世界とは異なるのです。今日、ソ連が平和を主張しますが、その平和は、マルクス・ レーニン主義を中心として、そこに背くすべての反動分子たちを粛清してしまい、マルクス主義一辺倒の立場で反対する群れがいない境地を言うのです。

10　共産主義とは何でしょうか。神中心の主体も認めない、対象も認めない、方向性もない、目的性もないというのです。この中でどれか一つでも認定すれ ば、すべて崩れ去ってしまうのです。ここでは、主体と対象の関係を闘争関係として見ています。闘うことで一つになるというのです。そのような道理がどこに ありますか。「女性と男性が闘って一つになる。心と体が闘って一つになる」というのです。
 彼らはまた、主体と対象においても、「物質が先であって、心が先ではない。心は物質から派生した」と言います。逆さまにひっくり返してしまいました。「発 展は闘争だ」と言いながら、闘争の方向を取っています。平和の方向ではありません。「統一は血を見なければならない。血を見て統一される」と言うのです。 これは、歴史発展の原則にも、宇宙の存在の原則にも違反するのです。

11　唯物弁証法は、すべてのものは闘争しながら一つになるというものです。もし資本主義世界がなくなり、資本主義体制が共産主義体制になるときには、闘 争目標をどこに置くのでしょうか。その時に、平和の世界がただそのまま来るのかというのです。その時、ただじっとしていて理想的な共産世界が来るとは絶対 に考えることはできません。もし、これ自体が飽和状態になって理想実現が不可能になるときは、必ずそれ自体の分裂が激しくなります。

もしそのような世界になるとすれば、霊界がその世界を黙って放っておくのかというのです。神様がいるとすれば、どのようにされるでしょうか。その世界に なったとすれば、宗教がなくなります。宗教がない世界になるのです。そのようになった時、今まで宗教と向き合ってきた神様が、何もせずにじっとしているだ ろうかというのです。共産主義は、資本主義に対して閾争目標を立てると同時に、神様に対して闘争目標を立てています。宗教を闘争の目標に立てるのです。

12　共産主義が語る平和は、私たちと概念が違います。語彙的戦術を活用しているのです。「平和」といえば、私たち自由世界、民主世界の人々は、互いに意 見が異なり、主張が異なり、目的方向が異なる立場にあっても、互いに和合して一つになることができる基準を探していきます。それが平和です。そのように一 つになったものが平和だとみなすのですが、共産世界は違います。プロレタリア独裁政権に反対するすべての反動分子は、完全に除去してしまい、そこに相対的 なものが現れない基準に立った平和なのです。

13　既にアメリカの行政府や軍隊や教会に、共産主義者が投入されています。ですから、無神論的キリスト教化運動を本格的に宣伝してきています。物質思想 を中心とした共産主義思想の基盤のもとで、組織的な編成をしてきていますが、これを中心としては何も期待できません。行政府に期待することはできず、軍隊 に期待することはできず、教会に期待することはできず、すべて期待することはできません。学者もそうであり、大学生も同じです。

ですから、仕方なく共産主義に対処できる思想的な基盤のもとで、新しい宗教運動を提示して、世界問題化させて希望を存続させる道しかないという結論が出て きます。ところが、共産党は、道理にかなった理想世界を願いません。暴力的な理想世界を願うというのです。目的のためには手段、方法を選びません。そのよ うな世界化された基盤と向き合わなければならないのが先生の立場であり、統一教会の立場であることを考えてみなければなりません。ですから、思想的に向き を変えておかなければならず、生活的な感情を変えておかなければならず、行動の方向を変えておかなければなりません。

14　共産党や悪というものは、力が強いときはいつでも攻撃してきます。平和がありません。そのような意味から、先生が統一教会の若い人たちの心に火をつ け、未来において闘争という内心的な決意を誓わせるために、勝共運動をしたのです。力は力で制圧することができる基準になっていなくてはならないのです。 だからといって、攻撃するということではありません。弱くなるときは、いつも侵攻しかねないのがサタンの本質です。平和だ何だと言うのは、彼らの戦略戦術 です。急変する情勢が押し寄せてくるこの時に、韓国の国民たちがすべきこととは何でしょうか。生死の決断を下すことができる思想的な武装をすべき時が来た というのです。

15　唯物論を中心とした共産主義がいかにして出てきたのでしょうか。それは、歴史的に物質しか分からないこの体の闘争的内縁を拡大させ、世界的に結実さ せておいたものです。それが唯物論的世界観です。また、今日の民主世界は、闘う心と体において、心の側として実を結び、世界的に結実したものとして現れた のです。これが今、世界問題として対峙しています。いつも体が心を打って引っ張り回すように、終わりの日には、物質主義が心の主義を侵犯して死亡のどん底 に追い詰めかねない危険千万な水位を越えるようになります。

このように見る時、二十一世紀に世界の統一も必要であり、一つの世界や平和の世界も必要ですが、「私」の心の中の奥深くに統一と平和をもたらすただ一つの 方案を、いかにして探し出すのでしょうか。これが問題です。これが起源になっているので、ここから解決しなければ、すべてのものが水泡に帰すのです。

16　今日、世界情勢の状況を探ると、共産主義者たちは、三つの形態の戦争を繰り広げています。それは、思想戦、情報戦、宣伝戦です。アメリカは、大きく て強大な国家ですが、共産主義者たちと闘って勝つことのできる確実な政策をもっていません。アメリカの為政者たちは、共産主義者たちと対抗して戦うことを 敬遠し、後退と譲歩を繰り返してきました。
ですから、アメリカと隣接した中南米の国々が共産主義者たちに操られ、アメリカの自由と平和を威嚇する段階にまで至ってしまいました。もし、共産主義者た ちがアメリカの統治権をつかむとすれば、皆さんはどのようにしますか。彼らが今のように、皆さんに自由と平和を保障してくれると思いますか。先生は、その ような不幸な事態がアメリカでも発生する可能性があり、そのような兆候は既に、世界の至る所に現れていることを確信しています。中南米の様々な国々は、先 生とその思想だけが未来の希望だと認識し始めました。今、統一教会の信徒たちは、アメリカを説得し、理解させなければなりません。

Cheon Seong Gyeong Ⅱ - 431. The End of Communism

1 Today the world is divided into the two camps of communism and democracy, representing Cain and Abel on the global level. The fight between Cain and Abel has brought about endless struggles, causing enormous pain and suffering. In order to clear this up, communism and democracy should not stand as divided camps fighting each other. If they remain in that position, we cannot establish a kingdom of peace on earth, or see the reign of the Parents of peace. The sovereignty of God, who is in the position of the Parent over a unified world, can emerge only when the communist and democratic worlds, in the position of Cain and Abel, become one. Why is communism a problem?

2 The democratic world and the communist world stand at opposite poles. While the democratic world seeks Heaven, the communist world goes the opposite way. While the communist nations follow materialism, the democracies follow ideals. The democratic world gives precedence to the individual, but in the communist world it is the Party that rules. The democratic world values freedom, love and peace, while the communist world rules by force using threats, guns and swords. Today these two worlds have split and are heading in opposite directions. 3 The democratic world seeks the world of the mind. At minimum it has compassion and hope for the future. Further, it seeks peace. However, the ideology of communism teaches struggle, based on dialectical materialism. It asserts that the course of struggle provides the elements for development. In that ideology, there can be no peace. Indeed, it leads to the opposite. (47-116, 1971.08.22)

4 The world today fights for the body and material things. Yet, despite advances in the fields of economics, science and philosophy, these cannot bring peace to humankind. It is through the movement of Heaven that the world of the mind must emerge, equipped with a new teaching that re-eval‎‎uates the physical body and material things. Unless such a teaching appears in this historical era of the Last Days, this world will come to ruin. Now we have arrived at the final era, when God must secure the one center. How can we, who are living in this era, resolve and clear up all the issues of our time? This depends on where we stand with regard to the two streams of thought that divide our world—the materialistic or the spiritual view of history. We will perish if we proceed based on materialism and the physical body. That is why we have to clear things up together with God. We have to place the mind in the forefront. Who is the subject partner of our mind? It is God. (011-023, 1960.12.11)

5 Democracy and communism, each in its own way, are trying to attain a world of peace. However, we are now entering the age when communism will be completely banished from the earth. From the providential and historical point of view, this is inevitable. What will happen to democracy when communism is gone? The democracies think that when communism falls the age of democracy will come, and democratic leadership will come to rule the world. It believes that democracy is the hope for the world. But in fact, when communism falls, democracy will also quickly plummet. (218-288, 1991.08.22)

6 Democracy and communism have thus far co-existed in a state of continual discord, struggling against each other. They could not co-exist in peace. Yet there must be a fundamental solution to the struggle between the materialistic and the spiritual perspective. How can we resolve this issue? We must first clarify where we stand, and based on that stance we must deal with all issues that arise. (37-121, 1970.12.23)

7 I have to stand on the foundation of having united Cain, the communist world, and Abel, the democratic world. I have to make the two become one. The democratic world and the communist world are the extension of the mind and the body. One is the world that centers on the mind, the other is the world that centers on the body. We cannot open the door to world peace unless we unite these two worlds. This is a law. This is how we can be connected as physical beings from the individual to the family, society, nation and world. (120-218, 1982.10.16)

8 The logic of communism states that an ideal world can be achieved only through a process of struggle. The directions of the Party are regarded as absolute, and all other ideas are rejected. That would be true if communism stood on the side of goodness, which brings freedom, happiness and peace. But if you look at the core of communism, it is ruthless beyond imagination. Communists will use any means or methods to reach their goal. If their parents, their country or their comrades stand in their way, they cut them down. During its history of seventy years, communism has emerged as a global challenge. (135-270, 1985.12.15)

9 What is the communist world aiming for? It is a world of peace through struggle. Such a world is different from the peaceful world that democracies pursue. Communists purge everyone who disobeys their ideology, labeling them as reactionary elements. If they cut off and remove all these elements, they call it a world of peace. Today the Soviets claim they want peace, but that peace is based on Marxism-Leninism. It refers to a state where all the reactionaries that disobey those in power have been purged. (168-164, 1987.09.20)

10 What is communism? It does not recognize God as the subject partner, it does not recognize object partners, and it has no direction or purpose. If you agree with even one of its points, everything falls apart. Communists see the relationship of subject and object partners as one of struggle. They assert that everything becomes one through struggle. Where on earth can you see such a thing? They claim that men and women become one through struggle, and that the mind and body become one through struggle. And when it comes to subject and object partners, they say that material existence is first, not the mind. They say that the mind is an offshoot of the body. In this, they turn everything upside down. By saying that their direction is struggle, they take the direction toward conflict, not peace. They also say that unification requires bloodshed. This violates the basic principles of the progression of history and the existence of the universe. (108-068, 1980.06.22)

11 The law of dialectics says that everything becomes one through struggle. If the capitalist world were to be replaced by a communist system, what would happen to the goal of struggle? Would a world of peace automatically come about? If the communist world remains as it is, we can never think that an ideal world will emerge. If the communist world reached a state of saturation, and it became clear that it could not possibly realize the ideal, the divisions within it would become more serious. Suppose that kind of world came about. Communists do not believe in or teach about the spirit world, but even so, do you think the spirit world would just let them be? If God truly exists, what would He do? If the world were to become communist, religion would disappear. Do you think that God, who has been relating to human beings through religion to this day, would stand idly by and do nothing about it? The goal of communists is not only to defeat capitalism, it is also to defeat God. That is why for them, religion is an object of struggle. (097-241, 1978.03.19)

12 Communism holds a concept of peace that is different from ours. Communists use strategic language. When we in the democratic world refer to peace, although we may have different positions about how to attain that goal, we try to find common ground on which we can cooperate and unite. That is peace. This is how we can become one. However, communists do not see it that way. They have to completely purge all the reactionary elements; no one who opposes them can stand before the authority of the dictatorship of the proletariat. To them, to reach this point is to achieve peace. (170-152, 1987.11.15)

13 Communists have already infiltrated the U.S. government, the army and the churches. They are proclaiming an atheistic Christian movement in broad daylight. These Christians have structured their system based on materialistic communist thought. We cannot expect anything good to come from it. We cannot expect a solution from the government, the army or the churches; neither from the scholars or the university students. In conclusion, it is inevitable that we must start a movement based on a religious teaching that can confront communism. We have to raise this issue globally in order to offer hope for the future. That is the best thing we can do. The Communist Party does not want to pursue the ideal world based on a natural course. They want to pursue it through violence. They do not care what means or method they use to attain their goal. You need to understand that we must fight against their worldwide foundation. This is my role, and it is also the role of the Unification Church. We must turn their ideology on its head. We must turn around their everyday emotions and guide their actions toward a new direction. (107-222, 1980.05.19)

14 The Communist Party, like all evil, always attacks when it is stronger than others. There can be no peace with it. In light of this, I built a gun factory in Korea. This was to set a fire in the hearts of the youth in the Unification Church and have them pledge from the bottom of their hearts to fight the communists in the future, if necessary. Force must sometimes be met with force. Of course I do not mean that we would attack them. Satan’s core nature is such that he always strives to invade when the other side is weak. Talking about peace and the like is just one of their strategies. What should the Korean people do when they are beset by rapidly changing circumstances? The time has come when they must arm themselves with an ideology that gives them life-or- death resolve to protect themselves. (50-227, 1971.11.07)

15 How did communism originate from materialism? It began with the internal struggle rooted in the body, which has only material existence, and expanded that to the world level. It applies materialism to the world. Meanwhile, idealism—which represents the mind in the mind-body struggle—has emerged on the world level in the form of democracy. Today these two camps confront each other. Just as the body strikes the mind and dominates it, in the Last Days, materialism pervades the mind- centered philosophies to a dangerous degree. Although we ought to bring about a world of peace in the twenty- first century, first we should consider how to bring about peace and unity deep within our minds. The conflict between mind and body is the cause of all problems. Because it is the origin of the problems, unless we resolve that, nothing will succeed. (143-045, 1986.03.15)

16 Throughout the world, the communists are fighting in three ways. They are fighting through ideology, intelligence and propaganda. The United States is a huge and powerful country, but it does not have clear policies or measures to fight with and overcome the communists. Some U.S. politicians are reluctant to fight the communists; they are making concessions to them and retreating again and again. As a result, communists are manipulating the nations in South America that neighbor the United States, to the point that they threaten the peace and freedom of their neighbor to the north. What will you do if the communists take control of your country? Do you think they will guarantee the freedom and peace you enjoy today? Surely it is possible for such a thing to happen, even in the United States. In fact, the signs are already appearing in all parts of the world. South American countries have begun to recognize that only Rev. Moon and his teachings offer hope for their future. Henceforth Unification Church members in the United States must make the American people understand this situation. (130-286, 1984.02.07)
