Summary:
The man of God is instructed to flee from the pursuit of wealth and the evils previously described, and instead pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. He must fight the good fight of faith and take hold of the eternal life to which he was called and concerning which he made the good confession before many witnesses.
Teaching:
A man of God must first flee from certain things. These include the love of money and the desire to become rich.
A man of God must fight the good fight. Things such as righteousness and gentleness are good in God’s sight. Fighting the good fight means refusing to compromise these virtues. It means living with God’s righteousness, godliness, faith, love, and perseverance. Living this way will bring many conflicts and difficulties, but do not be afraid. If you give in to fear, you will lose the fight and fail to take hold of eternal life.
The good confession is connected to the good fight. Those who fight the good fight speak differently. The good fight begins by making the good confession. Therefore, bear faithful testimony within the church. This message is given to every church worker and to all of God’s holy people.
