John 16 Commentary (3)
In John 13, He receives us, in chapter 14, He leads us from the flesh dimension to the spiritual dimension with the Spirit of truth, in chapter 15, He talks about the relationship with the Father through Christ in the Spirit of truth, and in chapter 16, He foretells the situation after the Spirit of truth comes, that is, the labor of childbirth.
Therefore, only when we have a clear understanding of Jesus who is going and the Holy Spirit who has come, can we know this day when He says, “In a little while, you will see me” (John 16:17), “In that day” (John 16:23), and “In that day, you will ask in my name” (John 16:26).
“In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” He speaks of the complete end of the change of mission.
The Lord’s words, “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,” should not sound like a confusing quiz game.
We must be able to decipher the secret path of the wedding feast in Cana (John 2:1) and the words, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19) on the next day (John 1:29), the next day (John 1:35), and the next day (John 1:43).
We must understand the Lord’s path of coming from heaven and returning to heaven again, opening the gates of heaven, breaking the seals of the Bible, and following the grace of the redemption of Christ’s cross, the Holy Spirit descends on those who cross over to repentance, and following the truth, through the opened gates of heaven to the Father.
This is the last day of all days, the day of salvation, the day of the Holy Spirit, which is called today.
Since human flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we become one body with Christ and one spirit, and we can boldly approach the Father.
As Paul said, we become one in Christ through his blood and are reconciled through the cross, and we become one spirit with Christ in one Spirit and can boldly approach the Father, so the word we have heard becomes mixed to us and we become a dwelling place for God in accordance with Christ by the Holy Spirit.
This is the mystery of the church of Christ (Eph 5:32).
The disciples in John 16:29-30 are now people who have realized the Lord's words and have changed.
So they understand the words that He said directly, "I came from the Father and am going to the Father," without using parables. "
The disciples said to him, "Now you speak clearly and without figures of speech. Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not expect people to ask you question. By this we believe thatyYou came from God."
However, the Lord does not believe that the disciples who make this confession will become one with him and follow him.
So Jesus answered, "Do you now believe? A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, every to his own home. You will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.
I have told you these things , so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:31-33)
This word is a prophecy that after the disciples were scattered, he would gather them again and send the Holy Spirit to make the Lord’s words come true.
Although they heard the words and realized them, the anointing of the Holy Spirit must come for the words to be embodied in reality.
Therefore, even though the disciples heard Jesus’ sermon and saw all sorts of signs, no advantage was given to them. God always plays a fair game.
Even though they saw the fleshly Jesus, if it were not for the Spirit of truth, nothing greater would happen.
That is why Jesus alone endured the blasphemy, jeers, and curses of the great crowd.
The fleshly Jesus had no comrades.
They all left and went their own way.
However, after the Spirit of truth came in, those who were called into Christ began to realize that they had become one with Christ by fate. That is why they are one body.
Although Jesus was left alone, He said, “I am not alone; the Father is with me.” So He overcame the rough, cruel, and miserable cross of Golgotha, rose again, and triumphed. He now commands and rules over all things with the name that is above all things.
Since this secret is told first, after the Spirit of truth comes, we will overcome the world in the same way that the Lord overcame the world, taking the yoke with the Lord in the Holy Spirit.
Christ, the first fruit, succeeded in that victory, and the disciples who received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost showed us that victory as a reference book.
Through the Acts of the Apostles, it tells us what kind of work will happen if we just testify that Jesus is Lord and Christ with the Holy Spirit.
Through the church letters, including the Book of Romans, it explains how to overcome the world with the salvation that Jesus appears to us as Christ, the anointing, who comes in us.
Nevertheless, in some Catholic countries, events that are reminiscent of baby Jesus are held in grand scale all over the world in the name of Christmas by people who are smart about business.
Now, the Lord is the Lamb, the King of kings, who sits on the throne.
Why baby Jesus?
Why should we worship the baby Jesus born in the manger in Bethlehem?
Why do we remember Jesus of Nazareth and go to the Sea of Galilee or Calvary to seek the Lord?
Why should Jerusalem be a holy place and why is there such great interest in the Jewish temple that will be built there?
Just as the anointed oil poured on the head of the priest flows down to the whole body, so we, the Father God who anointed the Lord, become the stream of the Holy Spirit and flow into our spirits, and we now dwell in the Son and in the Father through the Holy Spirit, taste eternal life, go toward the throne of grace, see its glory, and rejoice.
The world is crucified to me by the cross of Christ, and I am also crucified to the world by the cross of Christ, and we have no relationship with each other. They only tear at my flesh.
Those who risk their lives for their appearance, that is, the life of the shell, will always become food for the devil, but those who have become one with the Lord through the Holy Spirit have already sat on the throne with the Lord and become kingly priests who overcome the world, prophesying the word of the Lord to the world and to the people in it.
Therefore, Christians must never separate themselves from the Spirit of truth.
At first, there is considerable conflict, opposition, and distinction between Adam's fallen nature and sinfulness, but if we follow the grace of the Lord's redemption through the cross and go through the pain of childbirth, and continue to receive the word of God and have fellowship with the spirit, the Spirit of truth will not be a burden, and the inner self, the true self, will become stronger.
This self is our true self and eternal self.
