Over the past few decades, people have been hugely encouraged to use various kinds of public transportation systems. So, it has been argued whether public transportation systems should be free or not. Some people might explain that there will be negative consequences if public transportations systems become free. Meanwhile, others might not think so. However, I think that eliminating the fare of public transportations will both enhance the lives of individuals in communities and the condition of the environment. Actually, I have a couple of reasons to support my opinion and will explain and develop them in the next following paragraphs below.

First and foremost, having free public transportation systems will improve the lives of individuals who form communities and economy. Due to so many cars on the road, serious traffic jam has been a problem to many individuals who move from place to place by private vehicles, including various types of companies that do a lot of deliveries. However, this can change once public transportation systems such as buses or subways become free. This will encourage more people to use public transportation, and this will result in more peaceful roads and traffic that can boost companies’ wellbeing. Although some people might say that making public transportation free will be unfair to certain people who don’t use public transportation systems but pay the same amount of taxes as people who do, this is not true because such people will be benefited by this new policy because they will have less traffic congestion on roads and high-ways. For example, my professor once showed my class a virtual experiment system. The system showed what results we would have if something particular was changed in our society. When my professor lowered the price of public transportation systems, the number of private vehicles decreased, which cleared up the road for more trucks and buses to move faster. When my professor made public transportation free within the system, traffic jam decreased by 70%. Though the simulation program also showed that we would all be paying higher taxes and this could be unfair to the ones who didn’t use public transportation systems frequently, they would be evenly benefitted because their everyday commute would be easier due to decreased traffic congestion. Not only that, companies that do a lot of deliveries and factories that transport a lot of objects would be benefit from this too, making the economy more improved. Therefore, making public transportation systems free of charge for everyone will raise the quality of citizens’ lives and benefit the well-being of the economy.

Moreover, people should not pay for public transportation systems because free subways and buses will solve many environmental problems. Making transportation systems free of charge will be the best solution for such various environmental problems such as fossil fuel scarcity and air pollution because people will use public transportation systems more than their private vehicles that mainly cause such issues. Though some people might say that people there are many other efficient ways for solving environmental issues such as making more rigorous regulations for factories and companies, cleaning the river banks, and reducing plastic bags, the effect cars have on the environment has been proven to be the most destructive and long-term problem that we must solve as soon as possible. To give an example of this, when my dad was young, there were more people who used buses than the ones who had their own vehicles because our country was not only underdeveloped but also had cheap public transportation fare. So, the air was so clean that he could eat flowers and rain drops. However, today, the air pollution is becoming worse and worse every day. Fine dust is always in the air, and there are various kinds of toxic chemicals in rainfalls. Also, since there are so many cars that use so much fossil fuel, my country’s government has recently announced that cars that are older than 10 years cannot enter the capital state. On top of that, it’s been proven that many of the people who are using cars today consider buses and subways to be ‘too expensive’ because the overall cost they’ll have to pay for using it eventually exceeds the cost they use for gasoline. So, if public transportation systems become free of charge, pollution problems will be solved because more people will be more willing to use it.
