Summary:
Paul explains that, because of this, he puts up with everything for the sake of those whom God has chosen. His goal is that they, too, will receive the salvation found in Christ Jesus, along with eternal glory.
He then gives a trustworthy saying. If believers have died with Christ, they will also live with Him. If they endure, they will also reign with Him. But if they deny Him, He will also deny them. Even if they are faithless, He stays faithful, because He cannot deny Himself.
Teaching:
There is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ; salvation is found only in Christ. And those who are saved in this way are given the glory that is in Christ Jesus.
There is nothing in us that can be trusted, but Jesus is a Lord who can be trusted. In His consistency, faithfulness, righteousness, and long-suffering patience, our Lord Jesus is faithful. So once Jesus has spoken a word, He keeps it to the end, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit together fulfill what has been spoken.
A true worker of the church knows what it means to die and live with Jesus, and makes that event part of his whole life. Though he is not literally crucified, he lives as one who goes through it together with Jesus. May you become a faithful and true worker of the church, and may you have the grace of dying with the Lord and rising again with the Lord.
