Summary:
Paul reminds Timothy that he has closely followed Paul's life. Timothy knows his teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and perseverance. He also knows the persecutions and sufferings Paul went through in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. Paul endured all of those persecutions, and the Lord rescued him from every one of them.
Paul then says that everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. Meanwhile, evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse. They will deceive others and be deceived themselves.
Teaching:
Those who die with the Lord, He raises to life with the Lord. To die with the Lord means to believe in Jesus. It describes a person who believes that Jesus died for them, repents of their sins, and resolves to live by faith in Jesus. Such people share in Jesus' death and resurrection. They are saved, and they are the ones who become workers of the church.
A true worker of the church knows what it means to die and live with Jesus and makes that event part of their whole life story. Though they are not nailed to a cross and put to death, they live as though they are seeing all of Jesus' story with their own eyes and going through it together with Him.
