White is the color of hope, faith, confidence, and enlightenment. In China, wearing white is a symbol of mourning.


In the matrix, Switch is the only Neb crew member to wear white. I think that this is, in part, because of her name--she "switches" from black to white. Also, I think it is done because white is an sophicated color and it makes her stand out.


White is also associated with purity, innocence, goodness, and perfection. (In the western world, brides wear white to reflect these qualities.) When Morpheus first plugs Neo into a computer simulation, the screen is totally white and void of anything. It represents the fact that the loading program has endless possibilities and uses.

흰색이 상징하는 것은 희망, 믿음, 자신감, 계몽이다.
그러나 중국이나 우리 한국에서 흰옷은 상복으로 입기 때문에 이미지가 좀 다르다.

네브의 대원 가운데 유일하게 스위치만이 흰색 옷을 입는다. 이것은 아마도 switch 라는 이름에 옷을 바꾼다는 의미가 있는 것이 아닐까 생각한다(she "switches" from black to white).

흰색은 순결함, 순수함, 선량함, 완전함을 상징한다. 서양식 결혼 예복으로 신부가 흰색 드레스를 입는 것은 이런 의미이다. (재혼인 경우면 분홍색 드레스를 입기도 했으나 요즘은 개의치 않는다. 역자)

네오가 처음 컨스트럭트에 들어갔을 때에 사방이 모두 흰색이고 아무 것도 없는 상태는 그것이 가지는 무한정한 용도와 가능성을 의미하기 때문이다.
