지난 11월 13일 베트남에서 함께사는 사회를 꿈꾸며 공동체로 살아가는 VCIL(Vietnamese Community of Independent Learners)이라는 단체에서 밝은누리를 찾아왔습니다.
새빛들중학교 2~3학년 학생들도 저마다 마을배움터(뽕나무,맑은바람,기와집)에서 손님들 맞이했어요.

Last Saturday, I met people of VCIL in Mulberry 배움터. The meeting was the time to get to know each other. First, I introduced about Mulberry 배움터 with 여음. I couldn't speak clearly because of the awkwardness and nervousness. So I saw the ceiling while I was talking. I was respectful to 여음's fluent speaking. I hope I can speak better than before. I want to do better next time.
But the conversation was very interesting.
I thought that the situation in Korea and Vietnam were similar. We both value alternative education and community. I felt their passion and energy.
The Vietnamese English accent was very new to me. So it was hard to understand. But even this was good learning. I think it was a good time for both two communities.

지난 흙날, 뽕나무배움터에서 통전적삶을 꿈꾸는 베트남사람들이라는 단체분들을 만났다. 만남은 서로를 알아가는 시간이었다. 먼저, 우리는 저마다 자기 소개를 했다. 다음으로 나와 여음이가 뽕나무배움터른 소개했다.나는 어색하고 긴장되서 영어를 또박또박 말할 수 없었다. 말하는 내내 천장만 봤다. 유창하게 말하는 여음이가 존경스러웠다. 다음번엔 더 잘 말하고 싶다.
그렇지만 대화는 매우 흥미로웠다. 우리나라와 베트남 상황이 매우 비슷하게 느껴졌다. 두 곳 다 대안 교육과 사회가 중요하다.
그 분들의 열정과 기운이 대단했다. 그 분들 영어 억양은 나에겐 낯설고 알아듣기 어려웠다. 그래도 좋은 배움이었다. 두 공동체 모두에 좋은 시간이었다.


I met VCIL on Saturday evening. First, I introduced about 배움터 that I had prepared for a long time. Three people came from VCIL and one of them was korean. And one of the Vietnamese could speak Korean too.So I was nervous and embarrassed to use English.
But I could be less nervous because Sol did it first. It was not bad and I was good because I was able to try.Listening to the story, I was amazed that there were many similarities with us even though we are from different communities and people living in different cultures. For example, we both think alternative education is important. And I was glad to hear that they have rice farming with native seeds.
And it was amazing their passion to be ready to go to different countries and have many schedules without rest. I ended up rooting forvthem.

흙날 저녁 VCIL을 만났다. 먼저 오랫동안 준비한 소개를 했다. 그곳에서 온 세 분 가운데 한분은 한국인이셨고, 다른 두 베트남 분 중 한 분은 우리말을 매우 잘했다. 그래서 영어로 소개하는 게 떨리고 당황스럽기도 했지만 솔이언니가 먼저해서 덜 긴장되었다. 나쁘진 않았고 시도를 했다는 것에 기분이 좋았다.
이야기를 들으며 다른 문화와 공동체에서 온 분들이지만 비슷한 게 많다는 것이 놀라웠다. 이를테면 대안교육이 중요하다고 생각하는 것들. 나는 그들이 토박이씨앗으로 벼농사를 짓는다고 들어서 기뻤다. 그리고 다른 나라를 다니며 쉬지도 못하고 많은 일정을 소화하는 그 분들 열정이 놀라웠다. 그리고 그분들을 응원하게 되었다.

Yesterday Bargun Nuri members met VCIL community. VCIL is an alternative community of Vietnam. They came here with much curiosity.
And I was expected to meet them. So I prepared the introduction of our 배움터, folk song, snack and bright heart with my friends and village aunts. When I met them I was happy and interested. I felt they were also meeting us with open hearts.So I could introduce myself and our 배움터 without anxiety. And I knew language is different but we can give and gain energy from each other. Even though we have translators, we could laugh together. That was very amazing and good to me. And I was fresh because they have the concept of Chi,(energy, vigor, breath, spirit, feeling....) I was interested. And I was glad to meet them. I want them to visit Bargeun Nuri community again.

어제 밝은누리는 VCIL 공동체를 만났다. VCIL은 베트남의 대안 공동체인데 큰 호기심을 안고 이곳을 찾아왔다. 나도 그들을 만날 예정이었기에 친구들 마을 이모들과 함께 우리 배움터 소개, 민요, 간식, 그리고 밝은 마음을 준비했다. 그들을 만나니 기쁘고 흥미로웠다. 그들도 열린 마음으로 우리를 만나고 있다는 느꼈다. 그래서 떨지 않고 나와 우리 배움터를 소개할 수 있었다. 그리고 언어가 다르지만 서로에게서 좋은 기운을 주고받을 수 있다는 걸 알았다. 통역이 있었음에도 함께 웃을 수 있었는데 내게는 정말 놀랍고 좋은 경험이었다. 그리고 그곳에도 '기'(에너지, 활력, 숨, 정신, 감정...)라는 개념이 있다는 점이 신선했다. 재미있었고 만나서 기뻤다. 다시 밝은누리 공동체를 방문하면 좋겠다.

On Saturday people of VCIL came to Kiwagib(tile-roofed apartment). We couldn't meet each other for long. But I felt that time was good. They seemed very kind and wanted to hear our stories well. Kiwagib members introduced themselves and after that I spoke about Kiwagib Bae-woom-ter with Nuri and Gunhee. We explained our Bae-woom-ter in English. I was a little bit nervous. Actually I made a mistake a few times.Nevertheless the Vietnam members listened very carefully and reacted well. I appreciated them a lot.
Most VICL members spoke in English. So uncle Won translated it into Korean. But I understood their stories when I heard it in English.And I just felt their stories.It was so amazing that we could talk to each other without a barrier of language.
I was very impressed by that.
Few Kiwazib members sang a song with gratitude which can chase away misfortune.
They looked so happy when we sang very hard.
And they sang one Vietnamese song. I felt very excited and fun.I thought VCIL members looked so satisfied with that meeting. So I was happy, too. I studied their attitude of learning. I was very impressed that they came here to our community. I've got good things. I hope we can meet again.

흙날 VCIL 사람들이 기와집에 왔다. 오래 만나지 못했지만 좋은 시간이었다. 그들은 매우 친절해 보였고 우리의 이야기를 잘 듣고 싶어 했다. 기와집 식구들이 자기소개를 한 후, 나는 누리언니와 건희오빠와 함께 기와집 배움터에 대해 이야기했다. 우리는 영어로 배움터를 설명했다. 나는 조금 긴장했다. 사실 몇 번 실수도 했다. 그럼에도 베트남 분들이 아주 주의 깊게 듣고 잘 반응해 주어 참 고마웠다.
대부분의 VICL 회원들은 영어로 이야기했다. 그래서 원 삼촌이 한국어로 통역해 주었는데 나는 영어로 나눈 그분들 이야기가 이해되었다. 그리고 그 이야기에 공감할 수 있었다. 언어의 장벽 없이 서로 대화할 수 있다는 게 정말 놀라웠다. 퍽 인상 깊었다.
우리는 액운을 쫓아내는 노래를 불렀는데, 열심히 노래하는 걸 듣는 그분들은 정말 행복해 보였다.
그리고 그들도 베트남 노래 한 곡을 불러주어 매우 신나고 즐거웠다. 베트남 분들도 만남에 매우 습족해 보였고 그래서 나도 행복했다.
나는 그분들이 보여주는 배움에 대한 자세를 배웠다. 또 멀리 이곳 우리 공동체에 찾아온 게 매우 인상적이었다.
참 유익했다. 다시 만날 수 있기를...

When I heard Vietnamese people who wonder about our community are coming, I expected to meet them. Because I also wanted to hear their interesting life stories. So I prepare hard to speak the introduction of Kiwagib Bae-woon-ter and myself in English. After I had written it, I saw and spoke and memorized it. I thought that my preparation was perfect because I had very eagerly prepared it. Anyway, when the Vietnamese people came to our house, I thought I might be going to spoil the introduction because I was nervous because of the new people whom I hadn't seen before.
Besides, they spoke English very well. So maybe nobody there could have been more ervouse than I was. Anyway, after they finished introducing themselves, the people living in Kiwazib introduced themselves. When I had to give a self introduction, I couldn't speak well.
When I think of it again now, I am a bit disappointed. So I'll prepare something harder later.

베트남 분들이 우리 공동체에 대해 궁금해하며 온다는 소식을 듣고, 나는 그들을 만나고 싶었다. 그들의 흥미로운 인생 이야기도 듣고 싶었기 때문이다. 그래서 나는 기와집배움터와 나에 대한 소개를 영어로 열심히 준비했다. 글을 쓴 뒤 보고, 말하고, 외웠다. 매우 열심히 준비했기에 완벽하다고 생각했다. 그런데 베트남 분들이 우리 집에 오셨을 때, 처음 보는 새로운 사람들 때문에 긴장해서 소개를 망칠까 봐 걱정이 됐다. 게다가 그분들은 영어를 아주 잘했다. 아마 그 자리에서 나보다 더 긴장한 사람은 없었을 거다. 어쨌든, 그분들이 자기소개를 마친 뒤 기와집 식구들이 차례로 소개를 했다. 제가 자기소개를 할 차례가 되자 말을 제대로 잇지 못했다. 지금 다시 생각해보면 좀 아쉽다. 나중에 더 열심히 준비할 것이다
