Summary:
Paul urges Timothy to make every effort to come to him soon. He explains why: Demas has deserted him because he loved this present world, and has gone to Thessalonica. Others have also left. Crescens has gone to Galatia and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is still with Paul.
Paul tells Timothy to pick up Mark and bring him along, because Mark is useful to Paul for service. Paul also mentions that he has sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
Teaching:
The kind of partnership in ministry we see in today's passage was normal in the early church. It's remarkable that the apostles never challenged Paul's apostleship. Peter recognized Paul, Paul recognized Peter, and Timothy, Mark, and many others were united within the church, the body of Christ.
In today's passage, Paul is still writing letters for the church and arranging its ministry up to his final moments.
Whatever our role in the church, let us not forget the work we are called to do, which is proclaiming the Word. Be workers who spread the gospel.
