[NOTICE]
Since I'm trying to contain the number of participants within no more than 10
due to the nature of this study group and limited seatings,
current members are fixed as below.
It means that even though you've had an interview a long time ago and joined a few times
doesn't automatically give you the green light to participate.
If you happen to be absent more than a month in a row,
please give me a notice and I won't count you out
otherwise I would assume you're not willing to attend anymore
so unoccupied seat will be passed to a new commer.
CURRENT MEMBERS are...
Tia, Jay, Alyssa, (Sean), Andy, Kevin, Seokjun, (Sancho),
Erin, (Hyoju), (Law), Simon, (Gloria), (May), Alex, Alice, Rim, Lucy
Minutes of the meeting on 2/8
We had 8 English Talkaholics on 2/8, me, Alyssa, Alice, Rim, Seokjun, Erin, Alex and a new comer Lucy. (Welcome so much!! :))
We devoted a bit of time to introduction since we had a new comer, some digging and fooling happened as usual, making the atmosphere smoother.
We split into 2 groups for a discussion, and I believe each group had a valuable time with various issues brought by members.
We covered the issue of abortion clinic buffer zone in US, controversy over competing values, right to free speech vs public safety. I found out all members who supported buffer zone law were on the pro-choice side and those who were against espoused pro-life side. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Supproting-buffer-zone-group thought that the law is not infrinzing free speech right since the protestors can voice up out of the line, and buffer zone is only to protect those who've already been through huge difficuties making a decision from being intimidated and traumatized. it is just the same idea of criminalizing stoking. However the oppsozing group countered since it is public property there's no reason for protestors to be blocked from entering into the zone especially when there is no such physical violence and they're simply making a voice peacefully to persuade people. Plus, they worried as we started constraining the right to free speach by any means, it could expanded to other field as well and lead to gagging people in the end.
It was such an animated and heated debate as always. Thank you for your lively participation!!
We had lunch all together afterwards to cool us off from searing debate. ㅋㅋㅋ
Thank you for coming and hope to see all of you again this Saturday! :)
