하느님께서 솔로몬에게 다시 나타나시다

Promise and Warning to Solomon

1  솔로몬이 주님의 집과 왕궁과 그 밖에 자기가 지으려고 계획한 모든 것을 마친 다음이었다.

After Solomon finished building the house of the LORD, the house of the king, and everything else that he wanted to do,

2  주님께서 기브온에서 나타나셨던 것처럼, 솔로몬에게 두 번째로 나타나시어

the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him in Gibeon. 

3  이렇게 말씀하셨다. "나는 네가 내 앞에서 한 기도와 간청을 들었다. 네가 세운 이 집을 聖別하여 이 곳에 내 이름을 영원히 두리니, 내 눈과 내 마음이 언제나 이 곳에 있을 것이다.

The LORD said to him: I have heard the prayer of petition which you offered in my presence. I have consecrated this house which you have built and I set my name there forever; my eyes and my heart shall be there always.

4  네가 네 아버지 다윗이 걸은 것처럼, 내 앞에서 온전한 마음으로 바르게 걸으며, 내가 명령한 모든 것을 실천하고 내 규정과 법규를 따르면,

As for you, if you walk before me as David your father did, wholeheartedly and uprightly, doing all that I have commanded you, keeping my statutes and ordinances, 

5  나는 너의 왕좌를 이스라엘 위에 영원히 세워 주겠다. 이는 내가 네 아버지 다윗에게 '네 자손 가운데에서 이스라엘의 왕좌에 오를 사람이 끊어지지 않을 것이다.' 하고 말한 대로이다.

I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father: There shall never be wanting someone from your line on the throne of Israel.

6  그러나 만일 너희와 너희 자손들이 나에게서 돌아서서, 내가 너희 앞에 내놓은 계명과 규정을 따르지 않고, 가서 다른 신들을 섬기거나 예배하면,

But if ever you and your descendants turn from following me, fail to keep my commandments ans statutes which I set before you, and proceed to serve other gods and bow down to them,

7  나는 내가 준 땅에서 이스라엘을 잘라 버리고, 내가 내 이름을 위하여 성별한 이 집을 내 앞에서 내버리겠다. 그러면 이스라엘은 모든 민족들 사이에서 속담 거리와 웃음거리가 되고 말 것이다.

I will cut off Israel from the land I gave them and repudiate the house I have consecrated for my name. Israel shall become a proverb and a byword among all nations,

8  그리고 이 집은 폐허가 되어, 이곳을 지나는 사람마다 몹시 놀라고 휘파람을 불어대며 이렇게 말할 것이다. '어찌하여 주님이 이 땅과 이 집을 이렇게 만들었을까?'

and this house shall become a heap of ruins. Every passby shall gasp in horror and ask, "Why has the LORD done such things to this land and to this house?"

9  그러면 사람들이 대답할 것이다. '자기 조상들을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어내신 주 그들의 하느님을 저버리고, 다른 신들을 끌어들여 그 신들을 예배하고 섬겼기 때문이지. 그래서 주님께서는 이 모든 재앙을 그들 위에 내리셨다네.'"

And the answer will come: "Because they abandoned the LORD, their God, who brought  their ancestors out of the land of Egypt, and they embraced other gods, bowing down to them and serving them. That is why the LORD has brought upon them all this evil"
