The South Carolina Supreme Court has ruled the state can keep banning abortions around 6 weeks after conception.
The Justices unanimously ruled that while the medical language in the 2023 law was vague, suppoters an opponents of the law all seemed to think it banned abortions after six weeks
that was until the Planned Parenthood lost its challenge to the entire law 2 years ago
The law says ban abortion can't be performed after ultrasound can detect cardiac activity or steady repetitive rhythmic contracion of the fetal heart
The state argued that is the moment when an ultra sound detects cardiac activity.
Planned Parenhood says words after or mean the ban should start after the major parts of the heart come together, which is often around 9 weeks.
