[밀부르가]

토빗과 안나가 아들 때문에 근심하다

Anxiety of the Parents.

1  한편 토빗은 토비야가 가는 데에 며칠이 걸리고 오는 데에 며칠이 걸리는지 날마다 헤아리고 있었다. 그런데 날수가 다 차도 토비야가 돌아오지 않자,

    Meanwhile, day by day Tobit was keeping track of the time Tobiah would need to go and to return. When the number of days was reached and his son did not appear,

2  토빗은 "혹시 얘가 그곳에 붙들려 있는 것이 아닌가? 아니면 가바엘이 이미 죽어서 돈을 돌려줄 사람이 아무도 없는 것이 아닌가?" 하면서 

   he said, "Could it be that he has been detained there? Or perhaps Gabael has died, and there is no one to give him the money?"

3  근심하기 시작하였다.

    And he began to grieve.

4  그의 아내 안나는 "내 아이는 벌써 죽어서 이 세상에 없어요." 하고 말하였다. 그리고 자기 아들 때문에 울고 통곡하기 시작하였다. 그러면서 이렇게 말하였다.

    His wife Anna said, "My son has perished and is no longer among the living!" And she began to weep aloud and to wail over her son: 

5  "아이고 얘야, 내가 어쩌자고 너를 떠나보냈단 말이냐? 내 눈에 빛인 너를!"

    "Alas, child, light of my eyes, that I have let you make this journey!"

6  그러자 토빗이 그 여자에게 말하였다. "여보, 조용히 하고 걱정하지 말아요. 그 애는 잘 있소. 아마도 그곳에 예기치 않은 일이 일어났나 보오. 토비야와 함께 간 그 사람은 믿을 만한 사람인 데다가 우리 동포 가운데 한 사람이오. 그러니 여보, 그 애 때문에 근심하지 말아요. 곧 돌아올 거요."

    But Tobit kept telling her: "Be still, do not worry, my sister; he is safe! Probably they have to take care of some unexpected business there. The man who is traveling with him is trustworthy and one of our kindred. So do not grieve over him, my sister. He will be here soon." 

7  그러나 안나는 "당신이나 조용히 하고 나를 속이지 말아요. 내 아이는 죽었어요." 하고 대꾸하였다. 안나는 날마다 밖으로 달려 나가 아들이 떠나간 길을 살펴보며, 누구의 말도 들으려 하지 않았다. 그리고 해가 지면 집으로 들어와 밤새도록 통곡하며 우느라고 잠을 이루지 못하였다. 

    But she retorted, "You be still, and do not try to deceive me! My son has perished!" She would rush out and keep watch every day at the road her son had taken. She ate nothing. After the sun had set, she would go back home to wail and cry the whole night through, getting no sleep at all.

    라구엘이 자기 딸을 위하여 베풀겠다고 맹세한 열나흘 동안의 잔치가 끝나자, 토비야가 라구엘에게 가서 말하였다. "저를 보내 주십시오. 저의 아버지와 어머니가 저를 다시는 보지 못할 것을 생각하고 계실 줄을 제가 잘 압니다. 그러니 이제 아버님, 부디 저를 보내 주십시오. 저의 아버지께 돌아가게 해 주십시오. 제가 아버지를 두고 떠나올 때의 사정은 이미 말씀드렸습니다.

    Now when the fourteen days of the wedding celebration, which Raguel had sworn to hold for his daughter, had come to an end, Tobiah went to him and said: "Send me off, now, since I know that my father and mother do not believe they will ever see me again. So I beg you, father, let me depart and go back to my own father. I have already told you how I left him."

8  라구엘이 토비야에게, "조금 더 머물러라, 얘야. 나와 함게 조금 더 머물러라. 네 아버지 토빗께는 심부름꾼들을 보내어 네 소식을 전하게 하마." 하고 말하였다.

    Raguel said to Tobiah: "Stay, son, stay with me. I am sending messengers to your father Tobit, and they will give him news of you."

9  그러나 토비야는 "정말 안 됩니다. 부디 저를 바로  제 아버지께 보내 주십시오." 하였다.

    But Tobiah insisted, "No, I beg you to send me back to my father."

10  그러자 라구엘은 곧바로 토비야에게 그의 아내 사라와 함께 남종과 여종, 소와 양, 나귀와 낙타, 옷과 돈과 기물 등 자기가 가진 모든것의 절반을 내 주었다.

     Raguel then promptly handed over to Tobiah his wife Sarah, together with half of all his property: male and female slaves, oxen and sheep, donkeys and camels, clothing, money, and household goods.

11  그리고 건강히 지낸 토비야 일행을 떠나보내면서 그를 껴안고 이렇게 말하였다. "얘야, 건강하여라. 건강히 잘 가거라. 하늘의 주님께서 너희를, 네 아내 사라를 잘 보살펴 조시어, 내가 죽기 전에 너희 자녀들을 보게 되기를 바란다."

      He saw them safely off. Embracing Tobiah, he said to him: "Farewell, son. Have a safe journey. May the Lord of heaven grant prosperity to you and to your wife Sarah. And may I see children of yours before I die!"

12  이어서 자기 딸 사라에게도 말하였다. "네 시아버지께 가거라. 이제 그분들은 너를 낳은 우리처럼 네 부모님이시다. 얘야, 평안히 가거라. 내가 살아 있는 동안 너에 관하여 좋은 평판을 듣기를 바란다." 그는 이렇게 작별하고 그들을 떠나보냈다. 그때에 아드나도 토비야에게 말하였다. "내 자식이며 내가 사랑하는 친족아, 주님께서 너를 무사히 돌아가게 해 주시기를 빈다. 그리고 내가 오래 살아사서 죽기 전에 너와 내 딸 사라의 자녀들을 보게 되기를 바란다. 주님 앞에서 내 딸을 너에게 맡긴다. 네가 살아 있는 동안 내내 사라를 슬프게 하지 마라. 얘야, 평안히 가거라. 이제부터 나는 네 어머니고 사라는 누이다. 우리가 살아 있는 동안 내내 그 분안에서 모두 잘되기를 빈다." 그러고 나서 아드나는 그 둘에게 입을 맞추고 건강을 빌며 떠나보냈다.

     Then he said to his daughter Sarah, "My daughter, honor your father-in-law and your mother-in-law, because from now on they are as much your parents as the ones who brought you into the world. Go in peace, daughter, let me hear a good report about you as long as I live." Fimally he said good-bye to them and let them go. 

     Edna also said to Tobiah: "My child and beloved kinsman, may the Lord bring you back safely, and may I live long enough to see children of you and of my daughter Sarah before I die. Before the Lord, I entrust my daughter to your care. Never cause her grief all the days of your life. Go in peace, son. From now on I am your mother, and Sarah is your sister. Together may we all prosper throughout the days of our lives." She kissed them both and saw them safely off. 

13  토비야는 건강한 몸과 기쁜 마음으로 라구엘에게서 떠나가며, 자기 여행을 잘 이끌어 주신 하늘과 땅의 주님, 만물의 임금님을 찬미하였다. 라구엘은 또 토비야에게 이 말도 하였다. "네가 주님의 인도를 받아 너의 부모님이 살아 계시는 동안 내내 그분들을 공경하기 바란다."

     Tobiah left Raguel, full of happiness and joy, and he blessed the Lord of heaven and earth, the King of all, for making his journey so successful. Finally he blessed Raguel and his wife Edna, and added, "I have been commanded by the Lord to honor you all the days of your life!"
