아함경, 니까야, 법구경, 수타니파아타, 밀란다왕문경 등 불교의 토대를 이루고 있는 초기불교의 경전이 가장 중요한 책이다.

This is exactly what I was looking for. It seemed like a lot of others opinions on the dogma(교리, 교의), but I wanted original text.
After years of reading Dhamma books I've recently started reading the suttas. I've gotta say at least some feel a bit like lab reports to me. These are definitely not myths(신화, 미신) and folklore(전설, 민간전승). Though they have some mythical(신화적인) elements.
I tried to find “the foundations(토대) of Buddhism”.
Seeking The Lost Key To The Heart Is Divine(훌륭한) Love And Care/A Buddha.
Anyone can compare Buddhism with any religion if that what they wish. But one thing is clear. The level of freedom of thought given by Buddhism is unparalled. In fact Lord Buddha openly requested followers to question more. The motto is "come and see". No one is forced to beleive anything in Buddhism.
Most scholars think Abhidhamma came much after Buddha's time. It is nor reported in reports of the First Buddhist Council(제1차 결집회의). Also there are different versions.
Preserved by Sri Lankan monks thousand years ago spread by western scholars today. What a coincidence(우연의 일치). Westerners came to SL looking for spices(향신료) and "believers" and left with rouhly 10% of them after 300 years of colonization. Now Buddhism is spreding in western world ! Among the wise of course.
대단히 중요한 말
Pali Tipitaka is the only legit(진짜) scripture. Everything else that followed are corruptions due to blending with brahminical ideas.
There is nothing to develop in buddhism because the Buddha laid everything out. The original Pali/Magadhi is entirely practical stuff(내용, 자료).
Only ignoramuses[ìgnəréiməs](무식한 사람) say it needed development - by development they meant mixing with foreign ideas and doctrines to suit their greed for complex philosophical and impractical tosh(허튼 소리).
Where can I buy the original early Buddhist texts, like how Christians buy the Bible?
There is bunch of books. Only God knows which is authentic(진짜의) which is not. All claim their books are true.
As an introductory text, In the Buddha's Words is a bit... dry, don't you think? (Can't fault you for recommending it, though, I myself own a copy, it's basically essential reading at some point if you're serious about Buddhism.) Have you read Glenn Wallis's Basic Teachings of the Buddha? Seems like you both have very similar ideas and attitudes about Buddhism, it's crazy that you wouldn't have read it at some point. Anyhoo, Basic Teachings of the Buddha was my introduction to Buddhism, and it blew me away.
So, question, what book introduced you to Buddhism? Or maybe, rather, what book first got you excited about Buddhism?
So technically there is no original book like Bible for Christians.
