Jeffrey Becom, both an architect and a painter, became fascinated with color,
especially as it is used by the Maya of Central America and Mexico.
He and his wife, Sally Jean Aberg have travelled extensively in their search for the
symbolic ways in which the Maya paint their homes,
places of worship and dwellings for their dead.
The result is a color-saturated visual celebration of a culture
where the use of color is not merely aesthetic but a powerful statement of belief.
Jeffrey Becom has had his work exhibited both across the
United States and internationally.
He and his wife have also collaborated on two books that document their travels:
Mediterranean Color and Maya Color: The Painted Villages of Mesoamerica.
