초록

본 연구의 목적은 첫째, Levinas가 비판한 주체중심철학을 고찰하고, 두 번째는 그가 말하는 타자의 타자성의 성격은 무엇인지 알아보도록 한다. 그리고 셋째로는 주체 안으로 환원되지 않으면서 타자성을 실현할 수 있는 교육원리와 그것의 현장교육에의 적용가능성을 탐구하는데 있다. 첫째 목적인 ‘주체중심철학(Subject centered Philosophy)의 비판’에서 서양철학의 존재론은 근대의 cogito의 개념아래 사유하는 존재, 이성적 자아를 중심에 둔 근대적 주체를 만들어 철저히 주체중심의 사유이다. 이는 주체를 둘러싼 사물과 세계뿐만 아니라 인간마저 모두 대상화하고 타자화하였다는 데 그 본질적인 문제점이 있다. 교육 역시 근대주체의 입지를 공고히 하는데 기여하며 주체의 자아실현에 그 목표를 두었다. 그러나 이러한 목표는 주체 이외의 타자에 대한 무관심, 타자의 인격성을 배려하지 못하는 결과를 초래했다. 둘째 목적인 ‘타자의 타자성의 성격’에서 타자는 주체 속에서 구성된 대상도 아니고 주체 밖에 있는 어떤 한계도 아닌 완전히 소외된 자, 절대적으로 분리된 자이다. 타자는 전체적으로 주체인 나와 다를 뿐만 아니라, 절대적으로 나와 다른 존재이다. 이러한 타자에 대한 존재론적 특징을 ‘절대적 외재성’, ‘구현성’, ‘무한성’의 개념으로 설명하였다. 셋째 목적인 ‘타자성의 교육원리와 현장교육에의 적용’에서는 타자존중 교육원리를 개념화하였고, 그 구체적인 실천방안으로 대화적 교육방식과 책임의 교육윤리 그리고 타자지향적 교사상을 제시하였다. 이상의 논의를 통해 Levinas의 타자성 철학은 주체중심의 현대교육학의 패러다임을 근본적으로 전환할 수 있는 가능성을 시사할 뿐만 아니라 교육현장에서의 비인간화, 비인격화 현상을 치유할 수 있는 새로운 방안을 만들 수 있는 토대임을 밝혔다.

The purposes of this study are, first, to consider the subject-centered philosophy which Levinas criticizes, second, to know what is the character on alterity of the other he proposes and, third, to research the educational principle possible to realize the alterity without changing it in the subject and the possibility to apply it to the field education. First, the ontology of Western philosophy in the ‘critic of subject-centered philosophy’ is the complete subject-centered thought due to making modern subject be the thinking existence, that is, reasonable ego under the concept of modern cogito in the center. This has the essential problem being objective and other even human as well as thing and world surrounded with subject. Education also aimed at contribution to strengthening the position of modern subject and self-realization of subject. But, this aim came out the result not to consider the indifference on other except subject and the personal character of other. Second, the other in the ‘character on alterity of the other’ is the complete outsider or absolute separator neither the objective composed of in the subject nor the limit out of the subject. The other is the existence not only different from subject I on the whole but also different absolutely from me. I explained the ontological character on this other as a notion of ‘absolute outness’, ‘embodiment’ and ‘limitlessness’. Third, the educational principle of the alterity and its application to the field education conceptualized the education principles for others and represented the conversational education method, pedagogical responsibility ethics and other-inclined teacher status. The otherness philosophy by Levinas through the discussions above not only shows the possibility to change fundamentally the paradigm of subject-centered current pedagogy but also provides the ground to make a new plan to treat inhuman and impersonal conditions in the education field.
