<p>Americans love Birthdays! Cake (yum!)... Games (fun!!)... Gifts (yay!). What is there not to love?</p><p><br></p><p>In America, you actually become one year older on the day of your birthday every year. In Korea I am 24, but In America, I am 23 until July 14th, then on this exact day, I become 24! Birthday parties are a fun time to celebrate becoming one year older. There are many different types of parties to have. Swimming pool parties, scavenger hunts, and slumber parties are a few fun kid birthdays.</p><p><br></p><p>Swimming pool parties take place during warm seasons, like spring or summer. Here, kids swim all day long and play many types of pool games. You can "dive for rings", play "Marco Polo" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Polo_%28game%29), or have "cannonball" competitions (who can make the biggest splash). Usually kids eat pizza, cake, and ice cream at these parties, and always have a lot of fun!</p><p><br></p><p>Scavenger hunt birthday parties are also a lot of fun! Children all meet at one location and are given a list of things they have to "find". You can't buy any of the items, you can only ask people for them or find them. For example, the list will say:</p><p>1. A white flower</p><p>2. Something purple and soft</p><p>3. A piece of popcorn</p><p>4. A new friend</p><p>And you and your team, have to run around trying to find all the things on the list (sometimes at a park, sometimes at the mall, or somethings all over town!). Whatever team finds everything first wins!! Its kind of like a treasure hunt. After the game, everyone will go somewhere and eat food, ice cream, and cake, then open up gifts.</p><p><br></p><p>Finally, there are sleepovers! This is a very fun type of birthday! Friends will come over in the afternoon or evening. They will eat dinner together, then have cake and ice cream and open up gifts! Often, all the kids will go to the movies or do something fun at night like play hide and seek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hide_and_seek) or another game. Usually "pillow fights" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillow_fight) are very common at slumber parties.
