Cornelian Cherry Village

Early winter, I visited Sansuyu Village

Located in Baeksa-myeon, Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do

Looking around everywhere

Birds were not seen anywhere

Over me were pouring down the sounds of birds

Looking around everywhere

Birds were not seen anywhere

So excited were chirping the birds

Looking around after a while again

Birds were seen somewhere

Hanging up their jobuthan* bright red tongues

Where cornelian cherry blossoms faded away last spring

Birds were seen there

Being afraid that people might feel empty

In early winter visiting Sansuyu Village

From there were coming chirping sounds

*jobuthan: meaning a little narrow

Appreciation Review

It's early winter,

so cornelian cherry blossoms which bloomed last spring have all gone now, but people eagerly come to visit Sansuyu Village to see cornelian cherries.

However, they are disappointed to see that there are no cornelian cherries in the village at all.

How empty they will feel!

No one knows how they feel, but birds do.

Cornelian cherries have been long disappeared; instead birds are hanging up their jobuthan bright red tongues where cornelian cherry blossoms were placed.

Is it for soothing visitors who are feeling empty??

Or it is just for the poet's heart!!

At any rate

in a place without cornelian cherries

Birds have come

and they are chirping hard.

감상평

초겨울이라

지난 봄 피었던 산수유꽃은 다 지고 없는데

사람들은 산수유를 보러 열심히 산수유 마을에 찾아옵니다.

근데 와서 보니

산수유가 하나도 없습니다.

얼마나 마음이 허전할까요.

알아주는 사람은 아무도 없지만

새들은 알고 있습니다.

산수유는 지고 없지만

산수유 대신에 자신들의 조붓하고 새빨간 혀를

산수유 진 자리에 걸어 놓습니다.

사람들의 허전한 마음을 달래기 위해서일까요

아니면 시인의 마음이 그런 것일까요

아무튼

산수유 없는 자리에

새들이 와서

열심히 지저귀고 있습니다.

산수유 마을

초겨울 경기도 이천시 백사면 산수유 마을 찾아갔더니

새는 보이지 않는데

새소리가

마구 쏟아져 내렸다

아무리 둘러보아도

새는 보이지 않는데

새들이 신이 나서

지저귀고 있었다

한참 뒤 다시 보니

초겨울 산수유 마을 찾아온 사람들이 허전할까 봐

새들이 조붓하고* 새빨간 제 혀를

지난봄 산수유꽃 진 자리마다 걸어 놓아

거기서 들려오고 있었다

*조붓하다: 조금 좁은 듯하다.
