Do you know the mermaid statue of Dongbaekseom Island?

There is a mermaid statue sculpture on the east coast of Dongbaekseom Island. The legend of Princess Hwangok is related to this mermaid statue.

In the old days, Princess Hwangok of Nalanda Kingdom married King Eunhye of Mugung Kingdom, but as time passed, Queen Hwangok missed her homeland very much. A turtle guarding her side felt sorry for her and gave Queen Hwangok a jade, telling her to take out the jade and hold it up to the moon on the day of the full moon. 

When Queen Hwangok held the jade up to the moon on the day of the full moon, the beautiful moonlit night of her homeland, which she had always dreamed of, appeared before her eyes, and Queen Hwangok turned into a mermaid princess.

The mermaid statue of Princess Hwangok stands quietly on a rock. How is it different from Western mermaid statues?

동백섬의 인어상을 아시나요?

동백섬 동쪽 해안에는 인어상 조각이 서있다. 이 인어상에 얽힌 황옥공주 전설이 전해온다.

옛날 나란다국의 황옥 공주는 무궁국의 은혜왕에게 시집을 왔는데, 세월이 흘러 황옥 왕비는 고국을 매우 그리워하였다. 옆에서 호위하고 있던 거북이 이를 안타깝게 여겨 황옥 왕비에게 황옥(黃玉)을 주면서, 보름달이 뜨는 날 황옥을 꺼내어 달에 비추어 보라고 일러 주었다. 보름날 황옥 왕비가 황옥을 달에 비추어 보니 어느덧 눈앞에는 꿈에도 그리던 고국의 아름다운 달밤이 나타났고, 황옥 왕비는 어느새 인어 공주로 변했다고 한다.

 그 황옥공주 인어상이  다소곳이 바위 위에 서있다. 서양의 인어상과는 어떤 차이가 있을까요?
