Isaiah 25:1-28:13

Praise to the Lord

25 Lord, you are my God;

I will exalt you and praise your name,

for in perfect faithfulness

you have done wonderful things,

things /planned long ago.

2 You have made [the city] [a heap of rubble],

[the fortified town] [a ruin],

[the foreigners’ stronghold] [a city no more];

it will never be rebuilt.

3 Therefore strong peoples will honor you;

cities of ruthless nations will revere you.

4 You have been [a refuge /for the poor],

a refuge /for the needy /in their distress,

a shelter /from the storm

and a shade /from the heat.

For [the breath of the ruthless] is like a storm /driving against a wall

5 and like the heat of the desert.

You silence the uproar of foreigners;

as heat is reduced /by the shadow of a cloud,

so the song of the ruthless is stilled.

6 On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare [a feast of rich food] /for all peoples 민족들,

a banquet of aged wine—

the best of meats and the finest of wines.

7 On this mountain he will destroy [the shroud //that enfolds all peoples],

[the sheet //that covers all nations];

8 he will swallow up [death] /forever.

The Sovereign Lord will wipe away [the tears] from all faces;

he will remove [his people’s disgrace] from all the earth.

The Lord has spoken.

9 In that day they will say,

“Surely this is our God;

we trusted in [him], and he saved us.

This is the Lord, we trusted in [him];

let [us] [rejoice and be glad in his salvation].”

10 The hand of the Lord will rest /on this mountain;

but Moab will be trampled /in their land

as straw is trampled down /in the manure.

11 They will stretch out [their hands] /in it,

God will bring down [their pride]

despite the cleverness[a] of their hands.

12 He will bring down [your high fortified walls]

26 In that day this song will be sung /in the land of Judah:

We have a strong city;

3 You will keep /in perfect peace [those //whose minds are steadfast],

because they trust in [you].

You have gained glory for yourself;

you have extended [all the borders of the land].

16 Lord, they came /to you in their distress;

when you disciplined them,

they could barely whisper a prayer.[c]

17 As [a pregnant woman /about to give birth] writhes and cries out in her pain,

so were we /in your presence, Lord. (도치문)

18 We were with child, we writhed in labor,

20 Go, my people, enter your rooms

and shut the doors /behind you;

Deliverance of Israel

27 In that day,

the Lord will punish /with his sword—

his fierce, great and powerful sword—

Leviathan the gliding serpent,

Leviathan the coiling serpent;

he will slay [the monster of the sea].

2 In that day—

“Sing /about a fruitful vineyard:

3 I, the Lord, watch over [it];

I water it /continually.

I guard it /day and night

so that no one may harm it.

and you, Israel, will be gathered up /one by one.

1 Woe /to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards,

() to the fading flower, his glorious beauty,

set on the head of a fertile valley—

() to that city, the pride of those /laid low by wine!

3 That wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards,

will be trampled /underfoot.

4 That fading flower, his glorious beauty,

set on the head of a fertile valley,

will be like figs /ripe before harvest—

as soon as people see them and take them /in hand,

they swallow them.

Priests and prophets stagger from beer

and are befuddled with wine;

they reel from beer,

they stagger /when seeing visions,

they stumble /when rendering decisions.

9 “Who is it () he is trying to teach?

To whom is he explaining his message?

9 “Who does the LORD think we are?” they ask. “Why does he speak /to us like this?

Are we little children, just recently weaned?

10 For it is:

a rule for this, a rule for that[f]; 이런 규칙 저런 규칙

a little here, a little there.” 여기 조금 저기 조금

11 Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues

God will speak /to this people,

12 to whom he said,

“This is the resting place, let [the weary] [rest]”;

and, “This is the place of repose”—

but they would not listen.

13 So then, [the word of the Lord to them] will become:

Do this, do that,

a rule for this, a rule for that;

a little here, a little there—

so that as they go they will fall backward;

they will be injured and snared and captured.

Galatians 3:10-22

10 For [all //who rely on the works of the law] are under a curse,

as it is written: “Cursed is everyone //who does not continue to do everything /written in the Book of the Law.”[a]

11 Clearly [no one //who relies on the law] is justified /before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.”[b]

12 The law is not based /on faith;

on the contrary, it says, “[The person //who does these things] will live /by them].”[c]

13 Christ redeemed us /from the curse of the law /by becoming a curse for us,

for it is written: “Cursed is [everyone //who is hung /on a pole].”[d]

14 He redeemed us /in order that [the blessing /given to Abraham] might come to the Gentiles

through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive [the promise of the Spirit].

The Law and the Promise

15 Brothers and sisters, let [me] [take an example from everyday life].

Just as no one can set aside or add /to a human covenant //that has been duly established,

so it is in this case.

16 The promises were spoken /to Abraham and to his seed.

Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people,

but “and to your seed,”[e] meaning one person, who is Christ.

18 For if the inheritance depends on [the law], then it no longer depends on [the promise];

but God in his grace gave it /to Abraham /through a promise.

Absolutely not!

For if a law had been given //that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.

1 Hear my cry, O God;

listen to my prayer.

2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,

I call /as my heart grows faint;

lead me /to the rock //that is higher than I.

3 For you have been my refuge,

a strong tower against the foe.

4 I long /to dwell in your tent /forever

and take refuge /in the shelter of your wings.[b]

5 For you, God, have heard my vows;

you have given [me] [the heritage of those //who fear your name].

6 Increase [the days of the king’s life],

his years for many generations.

7 May he be enthroned /in God’s presence /forever;
