Solidarity Messages:
The Grand MARCH for the PEACE of Gangjeong,
July 30 to August 4, 2012

About the Event:
The Grand March for the Peace of Gangjeong throughout Jeju Island starts
on July 30
and ends on August 4.
People will start marching from Gangjeong Village on the southern side of
the Island
and will walk in two directions, east and west.
On the last day, August 4, the people will meet in Jeju City on the
opposite side of
the island form Gangjeong, and express their will to stop the
Jeju Naval Base Project
and to realize Jeju as a true Peace Island.
This is a nationwide event aiming for 10,000 total participants. Many
well-known people
have also been invited to raise the profile of the event.
The basic programs during the march include: Meditation (morning),
lectures/performances (after lunch), and lectures/performances/sharing (evening).
How can
internationals join?
(1) If you are physically able to join the march in person, there is a
participation
fee of 20,000 KRW (about $18 USD). You can pay this fee on
arrival. For logistical
reasons, please let us know you are planning on
attending by contacting us at gangjeongintl@gmail.com. Please don't give
us detailed information about your plan,
just that you plan to join so we can
estimate the numbers.
Food and communal residence will be provided. You may also bring a
personal tent or
use nearby motels. Please bring a hat, eating utensils and
dishes, bathroom toiletries,
a sleeping bag, a swimsuit, and anything else you
think you need.
During the walk, feel free to contribute your talents, such as art, video,
media,
performance, medic, etc…
(2) If you cannot join in person, please consider to send us messages of
solidarity no later than July 25. Short 100 word messages can be translated and
put onto campaign
materials for the march. You could also send us a short solidarity
video message.
