The Way Of Unification
Chapter 3. Divided Korea And The World
Section 4. The providential meaning of the division of North and South Korea
4. We must cross the 38th parallel
The path that the Unification Church is taking today is the same. We must have the heart to say that I was born for God and the world. In other words, we must have the conviction that I was born for the world, to resolve the world's realm of life and death.
We must cross the 38th parallel. Even if there is a larger 38th parallel, we must cross it. What we must think about is that the 38th parallel of the Korean people is not the issue. What would happen if we were to break through it and form a unified people? There is still the 38th parallel between us and the Communist Party of China and the Soviet Union, which border us.
Today, it is not such a great challenge that the 38th Parallel that divides North and South Korea lies before our nation. This is the 38th Parallel centered on our nation, but next we must cross the even larger and more extreme 38th Parallel between the Soviet Union and Communist China.
In order to prepare the foundation for peace that our nation must resolve, we must prepare a victorious foundation that can resolve even the even larger 38th Parallel.
From this perspective, our country's 38th Parallel is not an issue. If our people were to resolve our 38th Parallel and become a people that can overcome the global 38th Parallel that borders the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China, then this people would have to become a people that planted a new sense of subjectivity in the world and showed a new direction. Do you really have the conviction to do this? (35-25)
In the future, for the Unification Church to cross the 38th Parallel and become a standard-bearer for world peace, we must go straight, not roundabout. (35-39)
Today, when we look at our nation from the perspective of the national boundary line, the 38th parallel is an issue. The 38th parallel is a man-made boundary line. In order to cross it safely, we must become a presence that can reconcile the north and south and overcome the difficulties.
We must become people who can overcome the difficulties between North and South Korea. I cannot be the only person who can do this, so we must secure such people. We must quantitatively increase their numbers. Therefore, the important question is how to create a path that will enable us to overcome such an environmental sphere. (24-71)
What I prayed for as I crossed the 38th Parallel is simple: "God, please don't worry. I will unify even North Korea." I prayed for a moment, but even though I have devoted my whole life to practicing it, I have still not been able to do so. But in any case, I must return to my hometown. If I do not, God's will cannot be accomplished. (November 1, 1987)
During the January 4th retreat, I prayed to God as I crossed the 38th parallel. I must not die before I have caught and dealt with these villains with my own hands, so I prayed to God to let me live until the day when I can visit my hometown, my fatherland, again and return the praises of victory to God. To do this, I vowed to travel through Korea, Asia, and the world to reach my enemy, Kim Il-sung. (January 26, 1981)
