Lee Byung-chull, the founder of Samsung Group, is in the spotlight once again thanks to the popular TV drama "Reborn Rich," according to industry officials Monday.
월요일 업계관계자에 의하면 인기 TV 드라마 “재벌집 막내아들” 때문에 삼성그룹의 이병철 창업주에 대한 관심이 다시 일어나고있다.

They said the fictional character Chairman Jin Yang-chul in the drama, who pushes forward with plans to nurture his company's semiconductor business, reminded viewers of the Samsung founder because Lee is the figure who grew Samsung's semiconductor business despite strong opposition from his executives.
그들은 시청자들이 드라마에서 진양철회장이 회사의 반도체산업육성계획을 추진하는 것이 임원들의 강력한 반대에도 불구하고 반도체산업을 성장시킨 삼성의 이병철 창업주를 생각나게 했다.
 
Chairman Jin's persistent push whenever he decides the group's future direction in the drama has been sparking young people's interest in Lee Byung-chull's life story, they added.
드라마에서 그룹의 장래방향을 결정하면 지속적으로 추진하는 진회장이 젊은이들의 이병철회장 자서전에 대한 관심을 촉발하고 있다고 그들은 덧붙였다.  

"Reborn Rich" is a JTBC drama starring top actor Song Joong-ki, who dies in the present and is reincarnated in the past as Jin Do-joon, the youngest son of the owner family of Korea's top conglomerate Sunyang Group. As Jin knows what will happen in the future, he gives crucial tips to his grandfather (played by Lee Seong-min), the founder and chairman of Sunyang Group, and begins drawing attention from the chairman.
“재벌집 막내 아들” 은 톱스타 송중기가 현실에서 사망하고 과거의 한국 최고의 대기업인 선양 그룹의 오너 가족 중 막내 아들인 진도준으로 환생하는 역을 맡고있다. 진도준은 미래에 일어날 일을 알기 때문에 순양그룹의 창업주이며 회장인 그의 할아버지(이성민분)에게 중요한 팁을 제공하며 진회장의 관심을 끌기 시작한다.

An industry official said Chairman Jin in the drama was created based on anecdotes about the Samsung founder and other stories of various chaebol chairmen because some scenes are reminiscent of the Samsung founder's story.
업계 관계자는 드라마 속 진 회장이 삼성 창업주에 얽힌 일화를 비롯해 여러 재벌 회장들의 이야기를 바탕으로 만들어진 것은 일부 장면이 삼성가를 연상시키기 때문이라고 말했다
 
"Chairman Jin in the drama doesn't exactly match the Samsung founder, but it seems clear that the character was inspired by anecdotes about the founder of Samsung Group. Based on the founder's story, the producer of the drama added some more stories of other chaebol chairmen to Chairman Jin's character," the official said on condition of anonymity.
“극중 진 회장이 삼성 창업주와 정확히 일치하지는 않지만, 삼성그룹 창업주의 일화에서 영감을 받은 캐릭터라는 점은 분명해 보인다. 창업자의 이야기를 근거로 다른 재벌회장들의 이야기들을 진회장에게 덧붙였다.” 고 익명의 관계자는 말했다.
 
Regarding the reason why Lee Byung-chull is in the spotlight again, Kim Dae-jong, a business professor at Sejong University, said the Samsung chairman's vision regarding his decisive plunge into the semiconductor business, which required an enormous amount of investment and getting the right direction of the business, inspired many people, especially the younger generations.
이병철회장이 다시 각광을 받는 이유에 대해 김대종 세종대학교 교수는 막대한 투자와 올바른 사업 방향을 잡아야 했던 반도체 사업에 대한 그의 결정적인 뛰어들 결정을 한 삼성회장의 비전이 많은 사람들, 특히 젊은이들에게 영향을 주었다고 말했다.
 
"The semiconductor industry is a mass-producing business that requires a large amount of investment. Once you take a wrong direction in this kind of business, you can fall far behind your competitors, so it is very important that an entrepreneur makes the right decision," Kim said.
“반도체 산업은 막대한 투자가 필요한 대량생산 비즈니스이다. 당신이 잘못 투자하면 경쟁자들에 비해 훨씬 뒤쳐져서 기업가가 옳은 결정을 하는 것이 대단히 중요하다.” 고 김교수는 말했다.

People's growing awareness of the Samsung founder can also be found in the best-selling book chart.
사람들의 삼성창업자에 대한 관심증가는 베스트셀러 도서차트에서도 찾아볼 수 있다.
 
"Hoam Jajeon," literally meaning the autobiography of Hoam, which is the pen name of the Samsung founder, is ranked 57th, as of Monday, at Kyobo Book Centre, the largest bookstore chain in Korea.
삼성창업자의 호인 호암의 자서저를 의미하는 “호암자전”은 월요일 현재 우리나라의 최대 서점인 교보문고에서 57위를 기록했다.
 
The autobiography was republished in 2014 after going through a modernization process based on the original version written by the founder in 1986.
이 자서전은 1986년 창업자가 쓴 원본을 바탕으로 현대화 과정을 거쳐 2014년 다시 출간됐다.
 
The book's return to the top 100 chart after eight years is a clear example of how much people are interested in the late founder.
이 책이 8년 만에 100위권 차트에 복귀한 것은 고인이 된 창업자에 대한 사람들의 관심이 얼마나 큰지를 보여주는 단적인 예다.
