Bible Reading - Hebrews 7:1~10

7:1 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High.

이 멜기세덱은 살렘(평강)의 왕이요 가장 높으신 하나님의 제사장이었다. 

He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,

그는 왕들을 물리치고 돌아오는 아브라함을 만나서 축복했다. 

7:2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. 그리고 아브라함은 그에게 모든 것의 십일조를 주었다.

First, his name means "king of righteousness"; 첫번째 그의 이름은 "의의 왕"을 의미하며

then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." 또한 살렘 왕은 평화의 왕을 의미한다.

7:3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever. 그는 하나님의 아들처럼 아버지나 어머니가 없고 족보도 없고 날의 시작이나 생명의 끝이 없이 영원히 제사장으로 머문다.

7:4 Just think how great he was: 그냥 그가 얼마나 위대하였는가 생각하라.

Even the patriarch(족장) Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder!

족장 아브라함 조차 그에게 약탈물의 십일조를 드렸다.

7:5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people--that is, their brothers--

이제 율법은 사람들, 즉 그의 형제들로부터 십일조를 거두는 제사장들이 되는 레위의 후손들에게 요구한다.

even though(일지라도) their brothers are descended from Abraham.

그들의 형제들이 아브라함의 후손일지라도

해석 - 이제 율법은 그들의 형제들이 아브라함의 후손일지라도 사람들, 즉 그의 형제들로부터 십일조를 거두는 제사장들이 되는 레위 후손들에게 요구한다.

7:6 This man, however, did not trace(추적하다) his descent from Levi,

그러나 이 사람은 레위의 후손임을 밝히지 아니하였으니

 yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.

그러나 그는 아브라함으로 부터 십일조를 거두었고 약속을 가졌던 그에게 축복했다.

7:7 And without doubt the lesser person(더 작은 사람) is blessed by the greater.

그리고 의심없이 더 작은 사람이 더 큰 사람에 의해 축복을 받는다.

7:8 In the one case, the tenth is collected by men who die;

하나의 경우에 있어서 십일조는 죽어가는 사람들에 의해 거두어진다. 

 but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living.

그러나 다른 경우에 있어서 살아있다고 선언되어지는 그에 의하여 (거두어진다.)

7:9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham,

십일조를 거두는 레위가 아브라함을 통해 십일조를 바쳤다고 말할 수도 있을 것이다.

7:10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.

왜냐하면 멜기세덱이 아브라함을 만났을  때, 레위는 여전히 그의 조상의 몸에 있었다.
