It’s easy to think that our mornings with God are good, so long as we’ve prayed, read the Bible, and checked off the devotion box before moving on with the day. And those are all worthy practices that shape the first minutes of a day.
But I believe God is inviting us into something deeper, and it’s rooted here:
For a good morning,
begin with God.
For a great morning,
stay with God.
A good morning begins when we open our Bibles.
A great morning continues when we live out those words in our lives.
A good morning begins with prayer.
A great morning continues when we keep talking with God well after the “amen.”
A good morning begins with gratitude.
A great morning continues when we keep our eyes open for the little miracles all around us: how God paints the sky brand new with every sunrise, how your favorite tree turned the perfect shade of crimson overnight, how your friend’s text made you laugh out loud, how the sizzle of an egg in the pan is its own kind of song. And how God meets you even in the messes – in the burnt toast, the traffic jam, the interruption that slows you down long enough to notice His goodness.
Here are a few ways to BEGIN and STAY with God throughout your morning…
BEGIN with gratitude.
Before your feet hit the floor, thank God for something – anything. Gratitude opens the heart toward the goodness of God in your life.
STAY with God by returning. Set small “pause points” in your morning – a key Bible verse taped on the refrigerator door, a prayer alarm set at 10 a.m., a reminder on your lock screen.
BEGIN with silence.
Even one minute of quiet before scrolling can reorient your soul. I like to pray a short breath prayer before I get out of bed, something like, “in Christ alone,” as I inhale, and “my hope is found” as I exhale.
STAY with God through awareness.
Ask yourself, “Where can I sense God’s presence right now?” Maybe it’s sunlight spilling into my room, the kindness of a stranger on the street or help from a colleague at work.
BEGIN with intention.
Ask, “God, how can I love You with my time and attention today?”
STAY with God through reflection. Before the morning ends, take a few moments to notice what went well, and where you saw God at work. You could even jot those reflections down in a notepad right before lunch.
The point of a great morning isn't to fit God into your routine – it’s to let Him BECOME the rhythm of it, carrying you through the whole day.
Good mornings begin with God. And great mornings?
Well, they never let Him go.
Today's devotional thought is a reminder to look for the hand of God in all things, especially on the hard days.
God delights in delighting us. But sometimes we get so busy we don't notice. Let's take time to thank Him for His blessings today.
Lord, this is the day You have made. I will not regret in it ... I will rejoice in it. I will not be groaning in it ... I will be glad in it. Empower me to live this day fully in because You are in it with me. Amen.
Have a beautiful blessed day!~~~~~
