Last Friday afternoon, I presented my credentials to President Lee Myung-bak at the Blue House. This makes my assignment really official and I look forward to engaging in more public activities including meeting with Korean students and media. The ceremony was very elegant and I appreciated the opportunity to discuss U.S.-ROK relations with President Lee.

Thursday was Thanksgiving in the U.S. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays; it was an opportunity to “give thanks” for all the wonderful things that happened to us this year. Of course I am thankful for my family, as we are all happy and healthy. But this year we have something extra special to be thankful for: the opportunity to return to Korea to work on one of America’s most precious partnerships.
Speaking of precious, I read an incredibly inspiring story over the weekend: A 56-year old man passed the Korea bar exam, one of the toughest exams anywhere, after trying for 15 years. I wish him the very best as he begins the two-year mandatory training course. I also want to congratulate his family because I’m sure their support made this amazing accomplishment possible.
I look forward to welcoming Secretary Clinton tomorrow evening when she visits Busan to participate in the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness.
Thank you again for all your wonderful comments!
