Changgeuk Farewell My Concubine was premiered in April 2019 at National Theater of Korea as a beautiful collaboration of the National Changgeuk Company of Korea and Taiwanese director Wu Hsing-kuo. The epic poem unfolds the story like a beautiful picture, completed by the collaboration of traditional Chinese opera and changgeuk. While traditional Chinese opera focuses on the visual images as it could paint the whole world with a single gesture from an actor's fingertip, changgeuk focuses more on the sound describing the world with a single note. Farewell My Concubine is based on the same titled traditional Chinese opera, a love story of a hero Xiang Yu and Lady Yu from the renowned Chinese classic. Tim Yip, the winner of the 73rd Academy Awards with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon designed the dazzling costumes and brought them on the changgeuk, adding more charms and complementing the stage.
