2:11 사랑하는 여러분, 이방인과 나그네로 사는 여러분에게 권고합니다.
영혼을 거슬러 싸움을 벌이는 육적인 욕망들을 멀리하십시오.
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and sojourners to keep away from worldly desires
that wage war against the soul.
12 이교인들 가운데에 살면서 바르게 처신하십시오. 그래야 악을 저지르는 자들이라고 여러분을 중상하는
그들도 여러분의 착한 행실을 지켜보고, 하느님께서 찾아오시는 날에 그분을 찬양하게 될 것입니다.
Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that if they speak of you as evildoers,
they may observe your good works and glorify God on the day of visitation.
선량한 국민
Christian Citizens
13 주님을 생각하여, 모든 인간 제도에 복종하십시오. 임금에게는 주권자이므로 복종하고,
Be subject to every human institution for the Lord's sake, whether it be to the king as supreme
14 총독들에게는, 악을 저지르는 자들에게 벌을 주고 선을 행하는 이들에게 상을 주도록
임금이 파견한 사람이므로 복종하십시오.
or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the approval of those who do good.
15 여러분이 선을 행하여 어리석은 자들의 무지한 입을 막는 것이 하느님의 뜻입니다
For it is the will of God that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish people.
16 자유인으로서 행동하십시오. 그러나 자유를 악행의 구실로 삼지 말고, 하느님의 종으로서 행동하십시오.
Be free, yet without using freedom as a pretext for evil, but as slaves of God.
17 모든 사람을 존경하고 형제 공동체를 사랑하며, 하느님을 경외하고 임금을 존경하십시오.
Give honor to all, love the community, fear God, honor the king.
충실한 하인
Christian Slaves
18 하인 여러분, 진정 두려워하는 마음으로 주인에게 복종하십시오.
착하고 너그러운 주인뿐 아니라 못된 주인에게도 복종하십시오
Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence,
not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse.
19 불의하게 고난을 겪으면서도, 하느님을 생각하는 양심 때문에 그 괴로움을 참아 내면 그것이 바로 은총입니다.
For whenever anyone bears the pain of unjust suffering because of consciousness of God, that is a grace.
20 잘못을 저질러 매를 맞을 때에는, 견디어 낸다고 한들 그것이 무슨 명예가 되겠습니까?
그러나 선을 행하는데도 겪게되는 고난을 견디어 내면, 그것ㅇ응 하느님에게서 받은 은총입니다.
But what credit is there if you are patient when beaten for doing wrong?
But if you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this is a grace before God.
21 바로 이렇게 하라고 여러분은 부르심을 받았습니다. 그리스도께서도 여러분을 위하여 고난을 겪으시면서,
당신의 발자취를 따르라고 여러분에게 본보기를 남겨 주셨습니다
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you,
leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps.
22 "그는 죄를 저지르지도 않았고
그의 입에는 아무런 거짓도 없었다.”
"He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth."
23 그분께서는 모욕을 당하시면서도 모욕으로 갚지 않으시고 고통을 당하시면서도 위협하지 않으시고,
의롭게 심판하시는 분께 당신 자신을 맡기셨습니다.
When he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten;
instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.
24 그분께서는 우리의 죄를 당신의 몸에 친히 지시고 십자 나무에 달리시어,
죄에서는 죽은 우리가 의로움을 위하여 살게 해 주셨습니다. 그분의 상처로 여러분은 병이 나았습니다.
Himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross,
so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
25 여러분이 전에는 양처럼 길을 잃고 헤매었지만,영혼의 목자이시며 보호자이신 그분께 돌아왔습니다.
For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of you
