In The Bleak Midwinter라는 캐롤 같이 감상해요.

크리스마스가 곧 옵니다.  제가 좋아하는 Christina Rossetti 의 시로 만든 노래랍니다.

같이 들어요. 번역은 제가 했는데 더 예쁘게 고쳐주시면 좋겠습니다.

Youtube에 이노래가 많이 올라와 있더군요.

IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.

Our God, heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

Enough for Him, Whom cherubim, worship night and day,
Breastful of milk, and a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, Whom angels fall before,
The ox and ass and camel which adore.

Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;

쓸쓸한 한 겨울에, 서릿발 바람이 신음하고,
대지는 얼어 강철처럼 단단했지요.
눈이 내렸어요, 눈 위에 눈이, 또 눈 위에 눈이.
쓸쓸한 한 겨울, 아주 오래 전에.

 

 

우리 하나님이신 주님을,
하늘은 붙잡지 못하고, 땅도 버티지 못했어요;
주님이 다스리려고 오실 때에

하늘과 땅은 피해야만 했지오.

쓸쓸한 한 겨울에, 한 마굿간은 충만했어요.
전능하신 주 하나님, 예수 그리스도로.

 

케루빔이 밤낮으로 경배하는 주님께는
젖가슴에 불어난 젖과,
여물통 하나 가득 채운 건초 만으로도 충분 했지요..

천사들이 그 앞에 엎드리는 주님께는
황소와 나귀와 낙타가 경배했어도 충분했어요. 

 

천사들과 천사장들도 아마 그곳에 모여 있었겠지요.
케루빔과 세라핌도 공중에 모였겠지요:

하지만 오직 성모만이, 동정녀의 축복 가운데서,
사랑하는 분께 입맞춤으로 경배했지요.

 

가난한 난 주님께 무얼 드릴 수 있을까요?
내가 만일 목동이라면  양을 한마리 가져올텐데.
만일 내가 현자였다면, 내 역할을 감당했을텐데.

그렇지만 난 주님께 무얼 드릴 수 있을까요;
내 마음을 드려야겠어요.
