Paul's Life as Pattern

6  형제 여러분, 나는 여러분을 위하여 이 모든 것을 나 자신과 아폴로에게 적용시켜 이야기하였습니다. 여러분이 '기록된 것에서 벗어나지 마라.' 한 가르침을 우리에게 배워, 저마다 한쪽은 얕보고 다른 쪽은 편들면서 우쭐거리는 일이 없게 하려는 것입니다.

    I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, btothers, so that you may learn from us not to ho beyond what is written, so that none of you will be inflated with pride in favor of one person over against another. 

7  누가 그대를 남다르게 보아 줍니까? 그대가 가진 것 가운데에서 받지 않은 것이 어디 있습니까? 모두 받은 것이라면 왜 받지 않은 것인 양 자랑합니까?

    Who confers distinction upon you? What do you possess that you have not received? But if you have received it, why are you boasting as if you did not receive it? 

8  여러분은 벌써 배가 불렀습니다. 벌써 부자가 되었습니다. 여러분은 우리를 제쳐 두고 이미 임금이 되었습니다. 여러분이 정말 임금이 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 우리도 여러분과 함께 임금이 될 수 있게 말입니다.

    You are already satisfied; you have already grown rich; you have become kings without us! Indeed, I wish that you had become kings, so that we also might become kings with you. 

9  내가 생각하기에, 하느님께서는 우리 사도들을 사형 선고를 받은 자처럼 가장 보잘것없는 사람으로 세우셨습니다. 그래서 우리가 세상과 천사들과 사람들에게 구경거리가 된 것입니다.

    For as I see it, god has exhibited us apostles as the last of all, like people sentenced to death, since we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and human beings alike. 

10  우리는 그리스도 때문에 어리석은 사람이 되고, 여러분은 그리스도 안에서 슬기로운 사람이 되었습니다. 우리는 약하고 여러분은 강합니다. 여러분은 명예를 누리고 우리는 멸시를 받습니다.

     We are fools on Christ's account, but you are wise in christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are held in honor, but we in disrepute. 

11 지금 이 시간까지도, 우리는 주리고 목마르고 헐멋고 매맞고 집 없이 떠돌아다니고

    To this very hour wo go hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clad and roughly treated, we wander about homeless

12  우리 손으로 애써 일합니다. 사람들이 욕을 하면 축복해 주고 박해를 하면 견디어 내고

      and we toil, working with our own hands. When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; 

13  중상을 하면 좋은 말로 응답합니다. 우리는 세상의 쓰레기처럼, 만민의 찌꺼기처럼 되었습니다. 지금도 그렇습니다.

      When slandered, we respond gently. We have become like the world's rubbish, the scum of all, to this very moment. 

14  나는 여러분을 부끄럽게 하려고 이런 말을 쓰는 것이 아닙니다. 여러분을 나의 사랑하는 자녀로서 타이르려는 것입니다.

      I am writing you this not to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. 

15  여러분을 그리스도 안에서 이끌어 주는 인도자가 수없이 많다 하여도 아버지는 많지 않습니다. 그리스도 예수임 안에서 내가 복음을 통하여 여러분의 아버지가 되었습니다.

      Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became you father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

16  그래서 내가 여러분에게 권고합니다. 나를 본받는 사람이 되십시오.

      Therefore, I urge you, be imitators of me. 

17  이러한 연유로 내가 티모테오를 여러분에게 보냈습니다. 그는 내가 주님 안에서 사랑하는 나의 성실한 아들입니다. 내가 어디에 가든지 모든 교회에서 가르치는 그대로, 그리스도 예수임 안에서 지켜야 하는 나의 원칙들을 그가 여러분에게 상기시켜 줄 것입니다.

      For this reason I am sending you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord; he will remind you of my ways in Christ(Jesus), just as I teach them everywhere in every chruch.

18  그런데 어떤 이들은 내가 여러분에게 가지 않을 것으로 여겨 우쭐거리고 있습니다. 

      Some have become inflated with pride; as if I were not coming to you.

19  주님께서 원하시면 나는 여러분에게 곧 갈 것입니다. 그리고 그 우쭐거리는 이들의 말이 아니라 힘을 확인해 보겠습니다.

      But I will come to you soon, if the Lord is willing, and I shall ascertain not the talk if these inflated people but their power. 

20  하느님의 나라는 말이 아니라 힘에 있기 때문입니다.

      For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. 

21  여러분은 어느 것을 원합니까? 내가 여러분에게 매를 들고 가는 것입니까? 아니면, 사랑과 온유한 마음으로 가는 것입니까?

      Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a gentle spirit?
