MRS. GUMP

Death is just a part of life. It's something we're all destined to do.
I didn't know it, but I was destined to be your momma. I did the best I could.

FORREST
You did good, Momma.

MRS. GUMP
Well, I happened to believe you make your own destiny. You have to do the best with what God gave you.
 

FORREST
What's my destiny, Momma?

MRS. GUMP
You're gonna have to figure that out for yourself. Life is a box of
chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get.

FORREST (V.O.)
Momma always had a way of explaining
things so I could understand them.

왜 죽어가요, 어머니?

어머니
때가 되었을 뿐이야. 절대 두려워하지 마라, 얘야.
죽음은 단지 인생의 한 부분이야. 우리 모두에게 주어진 운명이지.
몰랐지만 네 엄마가 된 것도 나의 주어진 운명이었어. 난 최선을 다했어.

포레스트
맞아요, 어머니는 최선을 다하셨어요.

어머니
너 자신을 운명을 잘 개척하리라 믿어. 하나님이 너에게 준 능력으로 최선을 다해야 해.

포레스트
내 운명이 뭐에요, 어머니?

어머니
너 혼자 힘으로 그걸 찾아내야해. 인생은 초콜릿 상자와 같단다, 얘야. 어떤 초콜릿을 집어 들지 모른단다.

어머니는 항상 이해하기 쉽게 설명해주셨어요.
