The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation recently organised a road show to sensitise Nigerians on the imperative of boosting methanol fuel production technology in the country.
최근 나이지리아의 과학 기술 혁신부는 메탄올 연료 생산 기술 강화 필요성에 대한 홍보를 위해 별도 조직을 만들었다.

According to Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the minister, developed countries are gradually reducing their reliance on crude oil and placing emphasis on cleaner and renewable sources of energy.
Dr Ogbonnaya Onu 장관에 따르면 선진국들은 점차 원유 의존도를 줄이고 더 깨끗하고 재생 가능한 에너지원에 중점을 두고 있다.

The minister explained that methane which forms the bulk of natural gas can be converted into useful chemical called methanol.
장관은 천연가스의 대부분을 차지하는 메탄이 메탄올이라는 유용한 화학물질로 전환될 수 있다고 설명했다.

“We can now see that methanol is the only way that we are going to use our gas by adding value, changing its state and converting it into something that is very useful in virtually all aspects of our economy.
이제 나이지리아가 보유한 천연가스 자원을 메탄올로 변경하여, 우리 경제의 거의 모든 측면에서 매우 유용한 것으로 변형 사용하는 유일한 방법이라는 것을 알 수 있습니다 라고 하였다.

Onu said the benefits of introducing methanol fuel in the country are enormous as it would create over 40 million new jobs.
Onu는 국가에 메탄올 연료를 도입함으로써 4천만 개 이상의 새로운 일자리를 창출할 수 있는 엄청난 이점이 있다고 말했다.

“Captains of chemical industries are aware that the chemical industry is one of the least developed in the country, as virtually all the chemicals used in our factories are currently imported from other countries.
“With the introduction of methanol, manufacturers would use it as a feedstock for several product lines.
화학 공업 책임자들은 나이지리아 공장에서 사용되는 거의 모든 화학 물질이 현재 다른 나라에서 수입되기 때문에 화학 공업이 나이지리아에서 가장 개발이 늦은 산업 중 하나라는 것을 알고 있다.
“메탄올이 도입되면서 제조업체는 이를 여러 제품 라인의 공급원료로 사용할 것이다.

“As a fuel in the transportation sector, it is cheaper than PMS (Petrol); it is more friendly to the environment; has higher octane rating and enhances performance of vehicles.
“메탄올은 운송 부문의 연료로 PMS(휘발유)보다 저렴하다. 또한 더 환경 친화적이며, 옥탄가가 높아 차량의 성능을 향상시킨다.

“Furthermore, methanol can be blended with PMS at 15 per cent methanol and 85 per cent PMS and this blend can be used in all vehicles without requiring any significant modification,’’ Onu said.
"또한 메탄올은 15% 및 85%로 휘발유와 혼합할 수 있으며 이 혼합은 큰 개조 없이 모든 차량에 사용할 수 있다."라고 Onu가 말했다.

Fuel 연료 관점

It has improved safety, since methanol has a lower risk of flammability compared to gasoline.
메탄올은 가솔린에 비해 휘발성이 낮아 안전하다.

Alyssa Noll, writing on ‘Methanol Economy’ argued that though hydrogen has been proposed as a clean alternative fuel source because it can be produced from water, methanol economy presents several advantages over hydrogen economy.
He further said that methane unlike hydrogen gas is an abundant natural energy source.

“Hydrogen gas is dangerously more volatile than methanol at 64.7 degree Centigrade, with a boiling point of -253 degree Centigrade.
“수소 가스는 섭씨 64.7도, 끓는점 -253도이기에 메탄올보다 휘발성이 높은 위험도를 가지고 있다.

“As a result, hydrogen is much more costly and complicated to store and transport, but importantly, methanol as a liquid, can be seamlessly incorporated into present infrastructure.’’
"결과적으로, 수소는 훨씬 더 비싸고 저장 및 운송이 복잡하지만, 메탄올은 액체 연료로서 현재 사용중인 인프라에 원활하게 활용 될 수 있다는 점이다."
