11:11 By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.

믿음으로 아브라함은 나이가 지긋하고 사라 자신도 불임이었음에도 불구하고, 약속하신 분이 신실하신 분이라고 여겼기 때문에 아이를 낳을 수 있는 능력을 얻었다.

11:12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead(죽은 것과 다름 없다), came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

그리하여 이 한 사람에게서, 그는 죽은 자와 다름없었지만, 하늘의 별과 같이 많고 바닷가의 모래와 같이 셀 수 없이 많은 후손들이 나왔다.

11:13 All these people were still living by faith when they died.

이 사람들은 모두 죽을 때에도 여전히 믿음으로 살고 있었다.

They did not receive the things promised; 그들은 약속된 것들을 받지 못했고 

they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance.

오직 그것들을 보았으며 먼거리에서 그것들을 환영했다.

And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.

그리고 그들은 그들이 땅에서 이방인이요, 나그네라는 것을 인정했다.

11:14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.

그러한 것들을 말하는 사람들은 그들이 자신의 나라를(본향을) 찾고 있다는 것을 보여준다.

11:15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, 그들이 떠난 나라를 생각하고 있었다면,

they would have had opportunity to return.그들은 돌아갈 기회가 있었을 것이다.

11:16 Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one.

대신에 그들은 하늘에 있는 더 나은 나라를 열망하고 있었다.

Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God,

그러므로 하나님께서는 그들의 하나님이시라고 불리어지는 것을 부끄러워하지 않으셨고

for he has prepared a city for them. 그들을 위해 한 도시를 예비하셨다.

11:17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. 

믿음으로 아브라함은 하나님께서 그를 시험하셨을 때 희생제물로서 이삭을 바쳤다.

He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,

약속을 받았던 그가 자기의 독생자를 제물로 드리려 하였으니

11:18 even though God had said to him, 하나님께서 그에게 말씀하셨음에도 불구하고,

 "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned."

너의 후손은 이삭을 통해서 예상되어질 것이다. 

11:19 Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively(비유적으로) speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.아브라함은 하나님께서 죽은 자를 살리실 수 있다고 생각했고, 비유적으로 말해서, 그는 이삭을 죽음에서 돌려 받았다.

11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future.

믿음으로 이삭은 야곱과 이삭을 그들의 미래와 관련하여 축복했다.
