Dallas Mavericks
Player: Josh Howard, F, Wake Forest
IGN Sports says: A versatile, athletic player who thrives on the offensive boards and defensive end of the ball, both areas the Mavericks have been lacking. Although, at only 6-6, might have problems cleaning the glass with the same efficiency as he did in college. Will have time to grow and learn his role as he takes a seat on the bench behind the vast number of stars already in Dallas. Could be a nice role player off the pine as the Mavericks make another push into the playoffs.

Denver Nuggets
Player: Carmello Anthony, F, Syracuse
IGN Sports says: The most versatile, well-polished, and ready for prime-time player coming into the league this year, Mello's all-around game should make the Nuggets instantly improved, even if they still have a long way to go. Can hit shots from the outside, drive to the basket with authority, and take over a game when he needs to. Isn't afraid to be the man, and that's something they haven't had in Denver since Alex English.

Golden State Warriors
Player: Mickael Pietrus, G/F, France
IGN Sports says: Maybe the worst pick in the draft when it comes to team need. The Warriors already have too many guys who play the 2 and/or 3 and can't shoot, but here's another one. Provides plenty of energy off the bench and loves playing defense, but the guy couldn't hit the side of the Oakland Arena from the ticket stand, not that there's anyone in line to get in his way.

Houston Rockets
The Rockets did not have a first round pick this season, and their second round selection, Malick Badiane out of Langen, won't make it to the NBA this year and isn't in NBA Live 2004. Oh well, at least this year Yao's in the game.
LA Clippers
Player: Chris Kaman, C, Central Michigan
IGN Sports says: Has already showed his quickness and relentlessness getting to the basket in brief preseason appearances. Can score inside using either hand as his ambidextrous skills will become more and more evident to NBA fans when the season begins. Clippers hope Kaman turns out to be a better all-around player than the last highly touted center they drafted.

LA Lakers
Player: Brian Cook, F, Illinois
IGN Sports says: A former "Mr. Basketball" in Illinois, Cook is a hustler who can score both inside and outside, and like new teammate Karl Malone, likes to go to the free throw line to rack up his points. His dad used to play on Laker rival Celtics back in 1980.

Memphis Grizzlies
Player: Troy Bell, G, Boston College
IGN Sports says: Troy Bell has one of the strangest rating lines in the game. He can hit three-pointers as well as field goals, but can't dunk. And when I say can't dunk, I mean he actually got a 0 for dunk rating. Anyone with a tape of Bell dunking…ever, please send it to EA. Maybe he can't dunk, but then how did he get a 70 for Jumping ability? Strange. Anyway, Bell is a quick playmaker who can light it up from outside, even if he doesn't ever take it to the rim.

And the Grizzlies weren't done there as they also received another player in the trade with the Celtics, Dahntay Jones from Duke.
Player: Dahntay Jones, G/F, Duke
IGN Sports says: The complete opposite of Troy Bell as Jones' strongest attribute is his dunking ability. Can leap with the best of his college class and can be an effective scorer on the break. Needs to work on his perimeter game if he wants to make it in the NBA, though.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Player: Ndudi Ebi, F, Westbury Christian HS
IGN Sports says: It worked with KG, so why not go after another high school baller? Especially when the T-Wolves already have so much depth. This could be the perfect team for Ebi to learn from as they have skilled players at every position, plus KG, who's gone through the same experience of heading from the prom to the preseason.

Player: Zarko Cabarkapa, F, Serbia
IGN Sports says: Rhymes with Darko, but not quite the prospect of his fellow Serb. Was 12th man on Gold Medal winning Yugoslavian team at the 2002 World Championships. A good spot up shooter who also likes to pass the rock ala Tony Kukoc.

In a trade with the Spurs, the Suns also acquired another first round pick, Leandrinho Barbosa.
Player: Leandrinho Barbosa, G, Brazil
IGN Sports says: In real life, this kid can drain the three and drive the lane with great skill. In NBA Live, he's not so much a threat. Barbosa joins a team with so much young talent, the Suns could climb into top contender ranks in a few years. Look for exciting things to happen when Barbosa enters the game as he'll fill up the stat sheet with points, assists, and even rebounds from his position at the point.

Portland Trail Blazers
Player: Travis Outlaw, F, Starkville HS
IGN Sports says: A kid named Outlaw heading to the Jail Blazers had to be a joke, right? Poor kid. Couldn't be grouped with a worse bunch in terms of learning the ropes as the "Me first" attitude up north has sunk the team for years. If Jermaine O'Neal couldn't get off the bench, is there any hope for Outlaw? His 90 rating for both Dunk and Jump should make for great highlights, at least in Live.

Sacramento Kings
The Kings traded their first round pick since all of the best players from Europe were already off the board at this point.
San Antonio Spurs
Not feeling the need to add a rookie into the championship mix, the Spurs traded their only first round pick to the Suns.
Seattle Sonics
Player: Nick Collison, F, Kansas
IGN Sports says: A good choice at the time, Collison is already out for the season before the season even began. Oh well, at least his fans can still play as him in NBA Live 2004 where he is still healthy and a damn good baller.

Luckily for the Sonics, Collison wasn't there only first round pick. Hopefully Ridnour will make it through the season in tact.
Player: Luke Ridnour, G, Oregon
IGN Sports says: Uses speed and ball handling to break down defenders and can zip passes through traffic to the open shooter. Is a clutch performer at the end of games who isn't afraid to keep the ball himself when the game's on the line. Can turn an already fast Sonics lineup into one traveling at break-neck speeds. Would've benefited with Collison in the lineup, but should still have a solid rookie campaign.

Utah Jazz
The Jazz selected Alexander Pavlovic from Serbia, but it will be a while before he joins the team or any video game for that matter. It's too bad, because if any team needs some fresh blood, it's the Utah Jazz. Welcome to the cellar.
