11:31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.

믿음으로 기생(창녀) 라합은 정탐꾼을 환영했기 때문에 순종하지 않았던 자들과 함께 죽임을 당하지 않았다.

11:32 And what more shall I say? 그리고 내가 무엇을 더 말할까?

I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets,

나는 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입다, 다윗 사무엘 그리고 선지자들에 대해 말할 시간이 부족하다(시간을 가지고 있지 않다).

11:33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,

그들은 믿음으로 나라들을 정복하고 정의를 행하고 약속된 것을 얻었으며 사자들의 입을 막았고

11:34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.

맹렬한 불꽃을 꺼버렸고, 칼날을 피했으며, 약함을 강함으로 바꾸었고, 전투에서 강해져서 외국 군대를 무찔렀다.

11:35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. 

여인들은 다시 생명으로 올리워진 그들의 죽은 자들을 돌려 받았다.

Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.

어떤 사람들은 더 나은 부활을 얻기 위하여 고문을 당하면서도 풀려나기를 거부했다.

11:36 Some faced jeers(야유) and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison.

어떤 이들은 야유를 받고 채찍질을 당했고, 어떤 이들은 사슬에 묶이고 감옥에 갇혔다.

11:37 They were stoned; 그들은 돌로 맞았고

they were sawed in two; 그들은 둘로 켬을 당했으며

they were put to death by the sword. 그들은 칼로 사형에 처해졌다.

They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated--

그들은 양가죽과 염소가죽을 두르고 가난과 박해와 학대를 받으며 돌아다녔다.

11:38 the world was not worthy of them. 세상은 그들에게 합당하지 않았다.

They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.

그들은 사막과 산, 동굴과 땅속 구멍에서 방황하였다.

11:39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.이들은 모두 믿음으로 칭찬을 받았지만, 약속된 것을 받은 사람은 아무도 없었다.

11:40 God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. 하나님께서는 우리를 위해 더 좋은 것을 계획하셨는데, 이는 오직 우리와 함께 그들도 완전해질 수 있게 하려는 것이었다.
