1. 제칠년 오월 곧 그 달 십일에 이스라엘의 장로들 가운데 몇 사람이 {주}께 여쭈려고 와서 내 앞에 앉으니

And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], the tenth [day] of the month, [that] certain of the elders of Israel came to enquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

2. 그때에 {주}의 말씀이 내게 임하니라. 이르시되,

Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,

3. 사람의 아들아, 이스라엘의 장로들에게 말하고 그들에게 이르라. [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 너희가 내게 물으려고 왔느냐? 내가 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 너희가 내게 묻는 것을 내가 용납하지 아니하리라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라.

Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to enquire of me? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

4. 사람의 아들아, 네가 그들을 심판하려 하며 네가 그들을 심판하려 하느냐? 그들이 자기 조상들의 가증한 것들을 알게 하라.

Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge [them]? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers: 

5. 또 그들에게 이르되, [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 내가 이스라엘을 택하고 야곱의 집 씨를 향하여 내 손을 들어 올리며 이집트 땅에서 그들에게 나 자신을 알려 주던 날에 그때에 내가 그들을 향하여 내 손을 들어 올리며 이르기를, 나는 {주} 너희 [하나님]이니라, 하였노라.

And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I [am] the LORD your God; 

6. 또 내가 그들을 향하여 내 손을 들어 올리고 그들을 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나오며 내가 그들을 위하여 찾아 놓은 땅 곧 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅이요, 모든 땅의 영광이 되는 곳에 이르게 하리라 한 날에

In the day [that] I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands:

7. 그때에 내가 그들에게 이르기를, 너희는 각각 자기 눈의 가증한 것들을 버리고 이집트의 우상들로 너희 자신을 더럽히지 말라. 나는 {주} 너희 [하나님]이니라, 하였노라.

Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.

8. 그러나 그들이 내게 반역하여 내 말에 귀를 기울이지 아니하며 그들이 각각 자기 눈의 가증한 것들을 버리지 아니하고 이집트의 우상들을 버리지도 아니하였으므로 그때에 내가 말하기를, 내가 이집트 땅 한가운데서 그들에게 내 격노를 부으며 그들에게 내 분노를 이루리라, 하였노라.

But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

9. 그러나 내가 내 이름을 위하여 이 일을 행하였나니 곧 그것이 이교도들 앞에서 더럽혀지지 않게 하였느니라. 그들이 저들 가운데 있을 때에 내가 저들의 눈앞에서 그들을 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나와 내 자신을 그들에게 알렸노라.

But I wrought for my names sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they [were], in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

10. 그러므로 내가 그들을 이집트 땅에서 나오게 하여 광야로 데리고 가서

Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

11. 사람이 행하면 그 가운데서 살게 될 내 법규를 그들에게 주며 내 법도를 보여 주었고

And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them. 

12. 또 그들에게 내 안식일도 주어 나와 그들 사이에 표적이 되게 하였나니 이것은 내가 그들을 거룩히 구별하는 {주}인 줄 그들이 알게 하려 함이었노라.

Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] the LORD that sanctify them.

13. 그러나 이스라엘의 집이 광야에서 내게 반역하여 사람이 행하면 그 가운데서 살게 될 내 법규 안에서 걷지 아니하며 내 법도를 멸시하고 내 안식일도 크게 더럽혔으므로 그때에 내가 말하기를, 내가 광야에서 그들에게 내 격노를 부어 그들을 소멸시키리라, 하였느니라.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

14. 그러나 내가 내 이름을 위하여 이 일을 행하였나니 곧 내가 이교도들의 눈앞에서 그들을 데리고 나올 때에 그것이 저들 앞에서 더럽혀지지 않게 하였느니라.

But I wrought for my names sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.

15. 그럼에도 또한 내가 광야에서 그들을 향하여 내 손을 들어 올려 내가 그들에게 이미 준 땅 곧 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅이요, 모든 땅의 영광이 되는 곳으로 그들을 데려가려 하지 아니하였나니

Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands;

16. 이는 그들이 마음으로 자기들의 우상들을 따라가며 내 법도를 멸시하고 내 법규 안에서 걷지 아니하며 내 안식일을 더럽혔기 때문이라.

Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

17. 그럼에도 불구하고 내 눈이 그들을 아껴 그들을 멸하지 아니하고 내가 광야에서 그들을 없애지 아니하였으며

Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.

18. 광야에서 그들의 자손들에게 말하기를, 너희는 너희 조상들의 법규 안에서 걷지 말고 그들의 법도를 지키지 말며 그들의 우상들로 너희 자신을 더럽히지 말라.

But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:

19. 나는 {주} 너희 [하나님]이니 내 법규 안에서 걸으며 내 법도를 지켜 행하고

I [am] the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;

20. 내 안식일을 거룩하게 할지니라. 안식일이 나와 너희 사이에 표적이 되리니 이것은 내가 {주} 너희 [하나님]인 줄 너희가 알게 하려 함이니라, 하였노라.

And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your God.

21. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 자손들이 내게 반역하여 사람이 행하면 그 가운데서 살게 될 내 법규 안에서 걷지 아니하며 내 법도를 지켜 행하지도 아니하고 내 안식일을 더럽히므로 그때에 내가 말하기를, 내가 광야에서 그들에게 내 격노를 부으며 그들에게 내 분노를 이루리라, 하였노라.

Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

22. 그럼에도 불구하고 내가 내 손을 억제하고 내 이름을 위하여 이 일을 행하였나니 곧 내가 이교도들의 눈앞에서 그들을 데리고 나올 때에 그것이 저들 앞에서 더럽혀지지 않게 하였느니라.

Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my names sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

23. 내가 또 광야에서 그들을 향하여 내 손을 들어 올려 그들을 이교도들 가운데로 흩으며 그 나라들로 흩어 버리려 하였나니

I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;

24. 이는 그들이 내 법도를 집행하지 아니하고 내 법규를 멸시하며 내 안식일을 더럽히고 자기 눈으로 자기 조상들의 우상들을 따랐기 때문이라.

Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers idols.

25. 그러므로 나도 그들에게 선하지 않은 법규와 그들이 행하여도 살지 못할 법도를 주었느니라.

Wherefore I gave them also statutes [that were] not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;

26. 또 그들이 태를 여는 모든 자들로 하여금 불 가운데로 지나가게 하였으므로 내가 그들의 예물로 그들을 더럽혔나니 이것은 그들을 황폐하게 하여 내가 {주}인 줄 그들이 알게 하려 함이었노라.

And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through [the fire] all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I [am] the LORD.

27. 그런즉 사람의 아들아, 이스라엘의 집에게 말하고 그들에게 이르라. [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 이것으로 너희 조상들이 나를 모독하였고 저것으로 그들이 내게 범법을 행하였느니라.

Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me. 

28. 내가 내 손을 들어 올려 그들에게 주기로 한 땅으로 그들을 데리고 들어갔더니 그때에 그들이 모든 높은 산과 모든 굵은 나무를 보고 거기서 자기들의 희생물을 드리며 거기서 자기들의 헌물을 드려 격노를 일으켰고 또 거기서 자기들의 향기로운 냄새를 피우며 거기서 자기들의 음료 헌물을 부었느니라.

[For] when I had brought them into the land, [for] the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.

29. 이에 내가 그들에게 말하기를, 너희가 가서 경배하는 그 산당은 무엇이냐? 하였으므로 그곳의 이름을 이 날까지 바마라 하느니라.

Then I said unto them, What [is] the high place whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day. 

30. 그러므로 이스라엘의 집에게 말하라. [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 너희가 너희 조상들의 방식을 따라 더럽혀졌느냐? 너희가 그들의 가증한 것들을 따라 행음하느냐?

Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?

31. 너희가 너희 예물을 드리며 너희 아들들을 불 가운데로 지나가게 하면서 이 날에 이르기까지 너희의 모든 우상들로 심지어 너희 자신을 더럽히느니라. 오 이스라엘의 집아, 너희가 내게 묻는 것을 내가 용납하겠느냐? [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 내가 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 너희가 내게 묻는 것을 내가 용납하지 아니하리라.

For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

32. 너희가 말하기를, 우리가 이교도들 곧 그 나라들의 가족들같이 나무와 돌을 섬기리라, 하거니와 너희 생각 속에 품은 그것이 결코 이루어지지 아니하리라.

And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

33. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 내가 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 반드시 강한 손과 뻗은 팔과 쏟아 붓는 격노로 너희를 다스릴 것이요,

[As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:

34. 또 강한 손과 뻗은 팔과 쏟아 붓는 격노로 너희를 백성들에게서 데리고 나오며 너희가 흩어져 거하던 나라들에서 너희를 모으고

And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.

35. 백성들의 광야로 너희를 데려가 거기서 너희와 얼굴을 마주 대하여 변론하되

And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

36. 내가 이집트 땅의 광야에서 너희 조상들과 변론한 것 같이 너희와 변론하리라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라.

Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.

37. 내가 너희를 막대기 아래로 지나가게 하고 언약의 속박 속으로 들어가게 하며

And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: 

38. 너희 가운데서 반역하는 자들과 내게 범법을 행하는 자들을 제거하리라. 그들이 머무는 나라에서 내가 그들을 데리고 나오되 그들이 이스라엘 땅으로 들어가지는 못하리니 내가 {주}인 줄을 너희가 알리라.

And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD.

39. 오 이스라엘의 집아, 너희에 관하여 [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 너희는 가서 각 사람이 자기 우상들을 섬기고 이후에도 그리하라. 너희가 내 말에 귀를 기울이려 하지 아니할진대 그리하라. 그러나 너희가 다시는 너희 예물들과 너희 우상들로 내 거룩한 이름을 더럽히지 말라.

As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.

40. 이스라엘의 온 집 즉 그 땅에 있는 그들 모두가 내 거룩한 산과 이스라엘의 높은 산에서 곧 거기서 나를 섬기리니 거기서 내가 그들을 받아들이며 또 거기서 내가 너희의 헌물과 봉헌물의 첫 열매와 너희의 모든 거룩한 것들을 요구하리라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라.

For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things. 

41. 내가 너희를 백성들에게서 데리고 나오고 너희가 흩어져 거하던 나라들에서 너희를 모을 때에 내가 너희의 향기로운 냄새와 함께 너희를 받아들이고 이교도들 앞에서 너희 가운데서 거룩히 구별되리니

I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen. 

42. 내가 내 손을 들어 올려 너희 조상들에게 주기로 한 그 나라 곧 이스라엘 땅으로 데리고 들어갈 때에 내가 {주}인 줄을 너희가 알리라.

And ye shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country [for] the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.

43. 거기서 너희가 너희의 길들과 너희를 더럽힌 모든 행위를 기억하겠고 또 너희가 범한 모든 악으로 말미암아 너희 눈앞에서 너희 자신을 심히 싫어하리라.

And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.

44. 오 너희 이스라엘의 집아, 내가 너희의 사악한 길들과 너희의 부패한 행위대로 너희에게 행하지 아니하고 내 이름을 위하여 행하였을 때에 내가 {주}인 줄을 너희가 알리라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라, 하라.

And ye shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my names sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

45. {주}의 말씀이 또 내게 임하니라. 이르시되,

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

46. 사람의 아들아, 남쪽을 향해 네 얼굴을 세우고 남쪽을 향해 네 말을 떨어뜨리며 남쪽 들의 숲을 대적하여 대언하라.

Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop [thy word] toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

47. 남쪽의 숲에게 이르기를, {주}의 말씀을 들으라. [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 보라, 내가 네 속에 불을 붙이리니 그것이 네 속에 있는 모든 푸른 나무와 모든 마른 나무를 삼킬 것이요, 그 타오르는 불꽃이 꺼지지 아니하며 남쪽에서 북쪽에 이르기까지 모든 얼굴이 그 안에서 불태워지리라.

And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

48. 나 {주}가 그 불을 붙인 줄을 모든 육체가 알게 되리니 그것이 꺼지지 아니하리라, 하라, 하시기에

And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

49. 그때에 내가 이르되, 아, [주] {하나님}이여! 그들이 나에 대하여 말하기를, 그가 비유들을 말하지 아니하느냐? 하나이다, 하니라.

Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?
