Looking for Storytellers for Winterruption Storytelling Tipi Jan 27-28

Hello Friends, 

I hope this message finds you well. I’m so happy to be sending out this call for storytellers (to you or someone you know) for Outdoor Winterruption 2024. Every year as part of Winterruption, the Broadway Theatre sets up a weekend of fun outdoor events open to all. The Storytelling tipi is always a highlight and includes stories and activities from around the world.  

So now we’re looking for individuals who have traditional folktales and/or activities that come from around the world to share with us at this year’s Outdoor Winterruption 2024 in the Storytelling Tipi. Here are the details:

Dates:

Saturday January 27  - noon to 5pm (every half hour)

Saturday January 28 – noon to 5pm (every half hour )

Time slots will be every half hour with time in between to change over. So each session would be approx. 20min

Location: In a tipi behind Victoria School at Broadway and 11th St. East   – IN PERSON ONLY

Honoraria: $75/ story session… if there is a second person who is a musician or singer etc we can pay a maximum of two people per time slot ($75 each)

• Also, if you can do more than one time slot we would of course pay you twice

Length of each storytelling session: 20minutes

Here are some thoughts on what works well from past events:

• Family friendly
• interesting and fun traditional folktales
• Interactive works so well – puppets, pictures, props (last year we had some amazing puppetry!)
• Music and dance  is great especially with the kids
• Dynamic and high energy – preferably telling a story rather than ‘reading’ a story.
• Sharing different  languages/vocabulary – teaching some words during the story
• a good, strong, loud voice!
• question and answer time if the story is conducive to it

We are open to anything that is engaging for an audience! We also try to change up the stories every year but sometimes we bring back favorites from past years too!
