The Lord be with you.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
The Pharisees went and wanted friends of Jesus in what he saved.
So they said their disciples to him, along with the Herbians saying.
Hija, we know that you are sincere.
And teach the way of God.
In accordance with truth.
And show deference to no one.
For you do not regard people with partiality.
Tell us then, what you think.
Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, Why are you putting me to the test?
Your hypocrites.
Show me the coin used for the tax and they brought him a denarius.
Then he said to them, Whose head is this, and whose title?
They answered seasons.
Then he said to them, Give their more to Caesar, the things that are Caesars.
And to God the same that our gods.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Brothers and sisters, there was once a man who received 2 letters on the same poor day.
The first was from his back.
Reminding him about a payment he owed.
The second was.
From his elderly mother.
Who had written just a few words.
Son, I miss you. When can you visit me?
He immediately tracks my account. He calculated his expenses and made sure he would pay the bill on time.
He knew there would be consequences.
If he failed to meet his obligations.
But then he placed his mother's letter on the table.
And said it.
I will call her later.
But later became tomorrow.
Tomorrow became next week.
And next week became another month.
He paid the bank.
But he forgot his mother.
He fulfilled his obligation.
But he neglected.
Our relationship.
With your brothers and sisters sometimes.
This is exactly what happens in our relationship with God.
Yes, we are so careful about our responsibilities.
We make time for work.
Pay our bills and then our appointments.
And meet obligation of authors and expectations.
We know what the world demands from us.
And we do our best to fulfill those demands.
S.
S.
But when it comes to God.
We sometimes say.
Lady Lord, I will pray later.
I will spend time with you later.
I will put you first.
When life becomes less demanding.
And that brings us to the central message of today's Gospel.
God before Caesar, God before everything else.
The Pharisees approached Jesus with a question intended to trap him.
Is it permissible to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
And this is a very dangerous question because during that time.
The people are living on the Roman occupation.
And Caesar represents the power of Rome and many people resent paying taxes there are precious.
Because.
Because if Jesus says yes.
Some may accuse him of supporting Caesar.
If he says no.
He could be accused of rebellion.
But as we all know.
Jesus does not fall into their trap.
He asked them to show him a coin.
Whose head is this?
Whose name?
And then they responded. Caesar.
And then Jesus declares.
Give back to Caesar, then what belongs to Caesar?
And give God what belongs to God.
Notice.
That Jesus does not say to ignore Caesar.
He does not tell us to abandon our responsibilities to society.
Yes, we must be honest workers, responsible citizens.
Faithful family members and people who contribute to the good of others.
But today?
Jesus reminds us that Caesar has limits.
The world.
세상.
Him, the man on work.
But it cannot become our God.
Money can provide comfort.
But it cannot give our lives the ultimate meaning.
Power can command obedience.
But it cannot take place of God in our heart.
Hearts.
Our responsibilities to the world are real.
But our first allegiance belongs to God.
And that is why our thing today is not simply keep Caesar, but it is God before Caesar.
Meaning God for money, God before success.
God before popularity.
God before our pride.
God before our fears.
And yes.
Gone before even our own stars, especially when they lead us away.
From his will.
Many are brothers and sisters. This is where the gospel becomes so personal.
Because when making a decision, whose voice?
Comes first.
Gods or the world?
When we are tempted to be dishonest.
Because everyone else is doing it. Who comes first?
When we are angry and refused to forgive, who comes first?
When Sunday arrives and we have to choose between worshipping God.
And doing something we simply prefer.
Who comes first?
Putting God first made their friends does not mean neglecting our families.
Or abandoning our troops.
But it's quite the opposite.
When God comes first, we learn how to love our families better.
Work more honestly.
Forget more generously.
Answer bothers more.
God comes first, not because everything else is unimportant.
But because everything else.
Find its proper place in him.
And why does God disturb the first place?
Because before we ever gave him anything.
He gave us everything.
He gave us life, He gave us the ability to love, and when humanity turned away from him, they did not abandon us.
He gave us his only son, who gave his buried life for our celebration.
God did not give us what was left of His love.
He gave us his son.
So how then can we give God only?
What is left of?
Our eye.
Our attention and our hearts.
Today, may the brothers and sisters let me leave you with one object to remember.
After mass.
A coin may dear brothers and sisters, Jesus reminds us today.
Give the Caesar what belongs to Caesar.
But you and I bear something far more precious.
We are all created in God's image and likeness.
Yes, the coin bear sees us in it.
But our life bear God's image.
So whenever we see a coin this week, always remember money is not our God.
Success is not our God.
The approval of others.
Is not our God.
God comes first.
God before Caesar, God before everything.

Before everyone asks, yes I do realize I'm a little earlier.
I know the journey to Bethlehem.
Isn't quite due to begin yet.
But when you hear that something special is happening in our parish on Christmas Eve, you want to make sure you arrive early.
