그리스가 UH-1을 대체할 UH-60M 블랙호크 35기와 각종 관련장비를 19억 5천만 달러에 도입할 수 있도록 FMS 허가를 받았네요. 

대안으로 폴란드가 라이센스 생산하는 S-70이 있었지만 그 대신 FMS 도입을 추진했다고 하고, 원래 49기 도입을 계획했지만 FMS 허가는 35기만 나왔다고 합니다.

WASHINGTON, December 15, 2023 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Greece of UH-60M Black Hawk Helicopters and related equipment for an estimated cost of $1.95 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.

The Government of Greece has requested to buy thirty-five (35) UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters; eighty (80) T700-GE 701D engines (70 installed, 10 spares); forty-four (44) AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) (35 installed, 9 spares); eighty-five (85) H-764U Embedded Global Position Systems with Inertial Navigation (EGI) and country unique selective availability anti-spoofing module (SAASM) (or future replacement) (70 installed, 15 spares); and eighty-five (85) AN/ARC-231A VHF/UHF/LOS SATCOM radio systems. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO Ally, which is an important partner for political stability and economic progress in Europe.

The proposed sale will replace Greece’s current multi-role helicopter fleet with a more reliable and proven system that will allow Greece to maintain the appropriate level of readiness to conduct combined operations. The UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter will improve the Hellenic Army’s ability to deploy combat power to secure Greece’s borders, deter actions against its interests, and, when required, respond with credible force. Greece will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractor will be Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company, Stratford, CT. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will require approximately fifteen (15) U.S. Government and/or fifteen (15) contractor representatives to travel to Greece for an extended period for equipment de-processing/fielding, system checkout, training, and technical and logistics support.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

The description and dollar value are for the highest estimated quantity and dollar value based on initial requirements. Actual dollar value will be lower depending on final requirements, budget authority, and signed sales agreement(s), if and when concluded.

Greece secures $1.95B deal for 35 Black Hawk helicopters

Greece has officially received approval from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) for the purchase of 35 UH-60 Black Hawk multirole helicopters from US manufacturer Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.

The deal, estimated at $1.95 billion (€1.78 billion), will replace the aging Bell UH-1 Iroquois operated by Greek Land Forces, currently being phased out.

The decision to acquire Black Hawks was made in October 2023, with initial reports suggesting an order of 49 units. While the Greek government had the option to turn to the Polish group PZL Mielec, which produces a variant of the UH-60 Black Hawk known as the S-70, it opted for the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) procedure instead.

However, the DSCA’s opinion issued on December 15, 2023, reduced the number to 35. The helicopters will be provided along with engines, missile warning systems, embedded global positioning systems, and various communication and radio systems.

Greece has already ordered seven MH-60R Seahawk helicopters for its naval forces, completing its fleet of S-70B “Aegean Hawk.” Both aircraft types are derivatives of the UH-60 Black Hawk.

In addition to the Black Hawks, Greece is reportedly considering the purchase of 14 AW-139 helicopters from the Italian group Leonardo for its combat search and rescue needs, replacing the current fleet of Super Puma helicopters.

First reported by the Greek portal On Alert, the decision to choose the AW-139 over the H175 from Airbus Helicopters and the UH-60 Black Hawk was based on the aircraft’s compatibility with the Hellenic Air Force’s requirements.
